SUB in the studio? say wha?

Just wanted to shout out to all the SUBber out there. Today I spent litterally the entire day recording in my friend's studio for my older sisters album with my SUB. I was a bit worried to be honest, the sound coming out of my amp wasn't making me as happy as I would have liked(my basses always sound better when I'm not playing... go figure..). I then heard the recorded sound.... WOW. I have to say, I hope nobody Ever denounces the SUB without picking one up first. It played in there amazingly. And the sound was nothing short of To Die For. It was tight, all the lows, all the funky punch all the pleasure of playing a Stingray.

I may not be too experienced, but as far as I can tell the SUB came off sounding extremely close to a Ray, and an amazing sound none the less. Just wanted to make sure the bass got it's proper recognition as recently I've noticed some unbelievers about...

Also, should be united with my Bongo come tomorrow... Ohhh Yeahhh

You know, you can get pretty squirrely about tone if you sit at home enough and listen to just your bass as you play it.

I did this with that Bongo humbucker-single coil when I got it. IT DIDN'T SOUND LIKE THE DUAL HUMBUCKER BONGOS! And I got completely anal retentive about it and wondered if I should just sell it or trade it or something, because it sounded so different.

Finally, I thought - well, let me take it out and play it in a live setting and see if it really doesn't work.

I'm so dumb sometimes.

The freaking bass just rocked in a band context.

Sometimes that's what you gotta do. Remember what these things are designed to do, and let them do it, eh?

Hm... I sure hope your new Bongo won't cause you to neglect your SUB! Very fine basses, both of 'em! They deserve equal airtime, IMHO.

No worries there. I've already assured Everybody around me(mostly every musician I've worked with/told about the Bongo) I am Not getting rid of the SUB. In fact, I'm already thinking of getting another one. Though it seems my most recent GAS is for a SR5. Didn't like the look of them before, then I kept reading... You guys seriously need a medal for turning people onto basses...

Im a hardened sub player also, and cannot speak highly enough of it. Everyone says it isn't as good sound wise as a stingray, well I've heard sr but not played it and it's pretty close, well to be honest i would say it sounds different as opposed to worse or better. It looks cool aswell and I don't think il ever trade for another 4 string. I bought this in preference to a F Jazz (american) and Rickenbacker with money no option. I walked out with the sub and another hartke cab with the £400 saving I made!

As far as I'm concerned, the SUB is great for those many musicians who cannot afford a SR or Sterling but want a great look and sound. That's the idea behind it anyway: the mid-priced musician.

Well said tkarter, and yeah the SUB is definitely not something to be passed over. I'd suggest even those who can afford SR's grab just one SUB. I mean it's perfect for gigging, being considerably cheaper and already having that sturdy paint job.

Also, missed Bovine's post earlier. I can't agree with that enough! I've spent so many thousands of hours being totally bummed and upset with not getting THAT tone. Then I pull out my SUB and grab Any amp for a Jam... And I'm Totally blown away and impressed with the sound regardless. Bov's right; Let's remember not to get too crazy with that slight tiny hardly discernable difference in treble as we often do and remember the groove

I played a 4 string active sub the other day and I liked it. It sounded great and with a better setup would play and sound awesome.
