    Just a thought: Forum convention?

A post from Koogie2K and kbaim on the guitar side had said they got together for a jam in CA. Which got me thinking: What about a Music Man convention for forum members? We could meet at Bovines so he wouldn't have to transport all of his basses. Also, we'd have to verify the pics of his wife are not fakes.

Texas? Awww. Why not here in CA? Maybe a big ol', all-inclusive EBMM forum convention/get-together! EBMM gitirists and bassists jamming together! Oh yeah, I would like it to be within walking distance, please.

I'd goto TX. Could we invite Sir Nick of York for a good laugh. But then we'd have to hide the windows, tables, and ladies. He'd try to beat them up.

I just hosted a little fiesta of sorts here at Camp Bovine with some internet (and real) friends. We did a weekend about three weeks ago and had a fine time, lots of music did we play, lots of food did we eat, gallons of vodka did we drink.

Had about ten people here in the house and another two or three in various locations around northern Dallas.

About a week before that, Mister Mobay and I attended a very bass-centric fiesta with some of the TalkBass faithful. That was not quite as much fun, considering it was about the same temperature as, oh, the SURFACE OF THE FREAKIN SUN, plus there was a massive amount of wankage and a plethora of boutique basses (only Larry and I were really interested in each others basses, heh heh) but still - it was good to see so many bassists and basses in one place.

Anyhoo, it's a bit too soon to impose on the lovely Miss Erika and besides, I have to do some travelin' purdy soon in order to (further) defraud the government of some serious money (yeah, I do contract work, but I don't mean it, really) so anything here would have to be early next year.

I'm game, but I have to (a) keep the wife happy and (b) actually work a little this fall. Sucks, don't it? Work, I mean. Keeping the wife happy is usually pleasurable work, as they say.

But don't in any way let me hold you guys up. Go forth! Play bass! Be wankers!

But one of these days, I'm showing up at Jon's house, so look out.

Kudos on the convention idea. I'm sure everybody enjoys it as much as me. Now if only we weren't all scattered accross the world...

When the "convention" goes down, how long do you think until we get the cops called out???
they say absence makes the heart grow fonder... so go away!

    Current basses: None (but looking)

    Previous basses:

Stratus Blue Sparkle 'Ray with maple and matched stock (owned twice, sold twice, and regretted selling twice)

Lava Pearl 'Ray with maple and matched stoch

    Lava Pearl Bongo 4HH

Carbon Ble Pearl Sterling with maple board

A gathering like this would take some time to plan. We would need to find hotels for everyone and a place where we could jam legally. MM factory sounds like a good place. Everybody bring your sleeping bags, we're staying on the shop floor!

    we'd need a lotta amps.

always thought it would be fun(ny) to have 2 bass players jamming (dueling banjos style) ... but i never thought of 30.

slap this thread with the "what CAB do you use" thread and we can have a decent estimate of how many windows we can collectively shatter.

To be fair to everyone in the forum, a central U.S. location would be good. How does central Iowa sound? I'll put y'all up in the crummy motel right across from our church and we can jam in the sanctuary. No booze or dope, but I'll guarantee you get high on playing with some of the drummers I play with! Anybody besides me need a bit of churchin' up? And oh yeah, we like it LOUD.

Grrr. You are very lucky, Spector! The praise team I play with prefers a loud bass, but as we were setting up and practicing this Sunday morning, one of the members in the congregation actually shouted out to us, "The bass is too loud!"
