"Just in case" is because you never know. Just last week I had a string break forcing me to swap basses and I've had more than my share of straps and straplocks that have decided that gigs are more fun to break at than practice
they say absence makes the heart grow fonder... so go away!

    Current basses: None (but looking)

    Previous basses:

Stratus Blue Sparkle 'Ray with maple and matched stock (owned twice, sold twice, and regretted selling twice)

Lava Pearl 'Ray with maple and matched stoch

    Lava Pearl Bongo 4HH

Carbon Ble Pearl Sterling with maple board

When you do get in a band and you are playing a paying gig, they don't take too kindly to long, quiet breaks in the music. Neither the bar manager nor the crowd cares that you broke a string and you need to stop and replace it. They only know that they are not getting what they paid for. If you want to keep getting gigs, you need to come prepared. Probably the only person in the band that won't bring a back up instrument is the drummer and even he brings lots of sticks.
Starting to think about returning to bass playing in the very near future.

You're right! I thought that comment was out of character for you.
