I know it's not the most retro of ideas on the bass but it would solve the "screwdriver for the metal cover" problem.
How about if one of the knobs (like maybe the volume) was a push / pull for active / passive? This way if the battery started going, a quick pull would get you right back in the ball game.
With some of the newer basses, there's a passive option that seems very well received. I think this would only add functionality to the bass without taking away from the retro nature.

Wow! I'm not a big fan of the sea foam green, but the cream, sunburst, and natural ones look GREAT!
You guys are unstoppable right now. Keep 'em coming![]()

BP,
How about a “magnetized” version of the metal cover for the battery compartment? It gives you the old school look, new school innovation and no screwdriver necessary.
Just a poor salesman’s $.02

A magnetic battery cover might create a hum if interfering with the electronics. Someone said that megnetic fields can also drain some batteries rather quick if being too close but I have no personal knollage about this. I stood close to a bare speaker while playing the other day and the magnetic coil on the speaker made my bass hum so I had to step away from it.
I personally have no problem at all with using a screw driver when changing battery. It is only needed not even once ever 6 months so I don´t see this as a problem personally.
Sincerely//Jan

How about a hinged metal cover simuilar to the plastic ones for quick changes?
Music is food for the soul...And i'm hungry.
Although I like the metal battery cover, I am with BP on this one. I have had to change one on the fly before and the battery boxes make things oh so much easier. My vote is for the battery box.
You can never have too many balls!
Hey guys and gals just we want to remind everyone that these are the first prototypes and I'm sure we will tweak them in different ways. It's also possible that we do a "standard" version with oil / wax necks that will be around the same price as a normal Stingray, and also build some with figured lacquered necks that are more expensive...

Hey Dargin, will these be limited runs and numbered?
