Ash or Alder?

Hello, knuckleheads!
I decided to figure out from what kind of wood my Sterling is made. Its 2004 in Medallion Gold with 1 H. It got now dings, so its impossible to say is it an ash or alder...
So, I decided to find out what is the difference in weight between Ash and Alder Sterlings!
I would be very pleased if you guys could weight up your Sterlings(4-stringers with 1 H) and tell me how much does they weight and if it possible to tell the material of body!
For example my Sterling weights 4.2 kg (9,26 lbs)

FWIW, I'm not sure weight alone would tell the tale.
ie: I have an SB14 (basswood) that's heavier than my US SR (Ash)

ok guys...seems like nobody own single H Sterlings...
so, is there any other way to figure out from wich wood my Sterling was made?

You could post the question in this thread with your bass' serial number and they should be able to tell you.

Or take off the neck off and check out the wood. It should be visible in the neck pocket.

Post a photo if you can't figure it out.

My guess is that it's made of Alder.

All basses now are made of Ash (Except Bongo on Big Al) but my Ray from 2001 is Alder. There was a crossover period in which they moved from Alder to Ash...sometime between 2001 and now...

It seems to me that your Sterling 4 H is very heavy!

Recently I was weighting my 2008. Sterling 5 HS, and it was 4.1 kg (9.038942 lbs) on digital Libra!

According the wood matter it's best to visit serial number database thread like Smallmouth_Bass suggest you!

All Sterling basses are made of Southern Ash these days, have been since about 2000 or so. Before that, it would the wood used depended on what finish the bass was.
