Ah. Well, I guess I only had eyes for you, then.
How many bassists does it take to change a lightbulb?
I don't know... what's the bread?![]()

7 pages in a day or so. Wow, that's an almost TB-like pace! :-)
Like some forumites, I have some other brand passive basses that I use quite a bit, on a horses for courses basis. Like it or not, I have some gig situations where a modern active bass won't sound, or look right. That's all cool though, as fortunately I 'ho myself out enough that I'm in various bands, some of which suit my EBMMs perfectly - I had two gigs on the weekend and the Bongo HH and purple Stingray were in action.
I really love the fact that EBMM has chosen to start making basses with active/passive switching, as I think in the long run this will increase their market share. I hope that some day I can reduce the number of basses hanging on the wall of the spare bedroom by buying one or more active/passive EBMMs that can do double duty for me.
The Big Al body shape is awesome, but alas it's got a skinny neck, and the 25th is gorgeous but until prices are known on the everyday production version in 2010 it unfortunately remains a "sell your child" purchase based on Australian prices.
In the meantime I'll play my active EBMMs as much as I can, and look forward to the day that I can add a passive option from EBMM to my stable. Keep up the great work, BP and team!
Cheers

Interesting thread here. BS I have found nothing that you have said offensive.
To me a bass is a tool. I make money using them. Like tools, it's good to have a few different ones to choose from. One active, one passive and a fretless usually get the job done for me. In my case a 92 SR, a 78 P and a fretless 30th.
I say give MM a try. You may play the Bongo you are interested in for a while and find that it's a good tool for you. Play it a bit and if you don't like it gut it. If you don't sell that preamp in the first 5 minutes after posting it in the gear for sale forum, PM me and Ill buy it.

quite entertaining
I think the OP makes good points (I take issue with the passive argument, but that's ok) and its refreshing to see a differing opinion. I applaud him for having the guts to post (and in a non argumentative manner).
The truth is its impossible to make everyone happy. EBMM knows what distinguishes their instruments and has chosen to focus on that - I think that is a wise move.

Agreed. BS, I apologize for my initially sour attitude. I made an assumption that you were carrying out a form of "passive aggressive" negativity that I've seen quite a bit of here, and which irks me. Guys whose real intent is to take a thinly veiled dig, while insisting the whole time that's not what they're doing, and that they "love EBMM, BUT ..." yata yata. I should've held my tongue, and I see now that that's not what you were doing.
I guess the most ridiculous thing about reactions like mine and some of the others is that, like BP has said in similar situations, we knuckleheads have no stake in the matter. We sure act like we do sometimes, though.
So ... Peace!
