    Rock and Roll Glamour

Going through some old negatives, I found this shot. Seems to sum up the true nature of rock and roll, circa 1980.

All night recording sessions. Don't we look motivated?

Lots of people looked like Freddie Prinze in 1980, but that's a guy named Charlie Cosme. Grew up in France, moved to Texas and played in country bands until we co-opted him to play punk-jazz or whatever we called it.

That's great. No home studios, so we all rented studio time from Midnight to 4 in the AM... I remember it well.

For me, in those days, sessions always included the engineer telling me that my beloved Rick 4000 hummed, and could I please use the studio's P bass.

If only I'd discovered MM basses back then!

Oh, there was a cowbell. It was on top of the Mellotron, which you can almost see in the far right corner. (And even in 1980, the Mellotron was usually out of service.)
