New Rig to welcome home my new Bongo!

It only seemed right to update my rig (or simply purchase yet another rig), to welcome the new addition to the family. Seeing as my True Gold lefty Bongo 5 H is due to arrive before Christmas, I thought a rig befitting a monster of a bass was appropriate.

I was very happy with my Shuttle/Eden setup but has always lusted after Mesa gear. Not sure why I have never owned any Mesa bass gear until now but I am completely won over. This rig is so articulate, punchy and tubey at the same time, if defies description! The cab is admittedly freakin large, but its not that heavy and quite easy to move. Both amp and head came with fitted covers and are really first class all the way.

I'm sure my gear exceeds my talent at this point, but such fine basses deserve outstanding amplification! I think I'm set!

I also ended up with this cab which is absolutely gorgeous to play through as a standalone. My 4 string Ray sounds so warm and growly through this setup and I have could not believe how thick and punchy notes on the G string were coming through.

My Eden cabs sounded very thin and shrill after playing through this cab for an evening. I love this Mesa gear!

    Great choice in amplification!

I saw a RR 1x15 listed on Chilliwack's craigslist. Is that the cab?

The cab is actually a 412. Its new but was rented out a few times from the store so I managed to get it at as good discount.

The 115 is the one that was on craigslist.

I think this cab will certainly keep me in shape moving it but it really isn't that bad. it weighs about 40 pounds less then an 810 as it has neo driver's in it and is designed really well with in line skate wheels on the back and handles everywhere, even on the bottom. The main thing is the tone. The amp has a 4 tube gain stage and is so warm but still fairly quick as its Mosfet power. The cab is just so well balanced tonally that I can hear qualities in my bass that were never so apparent.

This rig makes me want to play more which is always the sign of good gear!

    major devastation with this rick!!

4x12 is like having an earthquake at your hand at service. I know the m6 is darn loud and sound incredible, but with this you can surely play 2000+ people-venues without a PA.

Congrats!!! I`m gasing for the m6 myself for about a year but the price...

cab size looks familiar...(please do not care for the white thing):

Just curious - what Eden cabs did you have - and with what amp?

I would never decribe the sound of my Eden rig as thin and shrill - that's for sure!

I don't really think my Eden cabs are thin and shrill but because they are both 210 cabs, they don't have the same low end girth of the 12's, so when doing an A/B comparison, its quite a different sound. I have an Eden 210XST and a 210XLT that I run in a stack with a Genz Benz Shuttle 6.0. Its a very portable deep and loud rig and I have been very satisfied with it but was longing for something with a more old school feel. The Mesa Big Block is very different tonally from the Shuttle and actually puts out less power at 4 ohms. The Mesa is however, much thicker and warm sounding and has this intense punch that i think you can only get from a big heavy power supply.

I have no intention of parting with my other rig as its much more portable and I can of course just take the Shuttle and a single 210 cab to small jams. This weekend, however, I will be using my wife's minivan to take the Mesa rig out for its first jam day. ear plugs will be required!
