no san luis obispo stamp on back of the neck?

This is a discussion on no san luis obispo stamp on back of the neck? within the Music Man Basses forums, part of the Gear Talk category; have these stamps always been on the headstock or does this mean it is an early bass? cheers...

    Could be an early one. Would have a gloss finished neck though. Rear decal showed up late 87/early 88.

    Could be a Japan version "EX" model. Those didn't have rear decals.
