I put mine on a stand next to my desk... gives me something to do during telco's
I pick it up too often (at least 10 times a day) for me to pack it away. That quilted top is just too pretty. My wife is getting jealous.

All in cases. For all the reasons ADoug said. I pulled my 63 Jazz out of its case yesterday and was amazed at its condition. I don't play it much and it is cased all the time. If it had been on a hanger or stand for the last 40+ years it probably wouldn't look as good as it does.

They stay in cases except a few that I go between every night. I do keep them out of the light.
Cases!
I also NEVER pick a bass up by the neck; only by the body! And I mean NEVER!

I keep most of mine on stands. A couple small Rockstands (the ones that sits the instruments sideways), a bunch of body supported only stands and one Hercules hang-type stands. They are just more likely to get played when they are out and even when I am not playing them, I love to look at them. They are functional pieces of art.

right now they are cased except for my goto bass..

trussrod adjustment:
less relief / flatter = lower action
more relief / bow = higher action
do NOT use cheap tools to adjust with. they might break and scrape up your pressious!
also, if you are lucky enough to have a 100th namm sr4: the truss works the other way around on that one!
+1
and the plastic Hercules arms are safe for nitro finishes (as opposed to the rubber/foam that some wall hangers have)
I keep most of my cases downstairs in the garage, and just keep a pair of Hiscox cases in the music room for transporting EBMM and Fender shaped basses to gigs. I grab two basses off the wall, and off I go to my gig.

I got mine in it's case right now mainly because my two wall hangers are taken by other instruments that would otherwise be lying on the floor. I have had it hanging before though.

I now have 25 left handed basses, about half hang on the wall, but I rotate a lot and so far no problems. The best place for a bass to hang is on a strap at a gig.
