    Thanks, Big Poppa!

I'm not one to hero worship, but I've got to say that I'm very impressed by the Music Man product line and the company. I now own two MM basses. I traded in a Silo on my new Ray.

I think many of the people on this forum are obsessed and get carried away with their Bongos, Rays and Sterlings. It can come across as fanatical and defensive to those who have never owned one. Quite honestly, a little weird. But WOW, how can you not get excited about them? All it takes is a visit to the guitar shop to look at the competitive offerings and you realize what a deal the MM line is. The quality is consistently great, the tone is fantastic and the price is fair. Most of my experience is limited to the offerings of the six GCs in the DFW area, but MM is truly a diamond-in-the-rough.

It's nice to have access to reasonably priced guitars that are fairly available. Keep up the great work!

I think about this every now and then and here's what I come up with. Many of us were/are used to frequenting "open forums" where just about anything could come up. This forum is not so different from a couple of others that are dedicated to one product line, but we lose sight of that because we were/are so accustomed to the "open" concept.

In the end, I don't think it's any surprise that members of the Ernie Ball Music Man Forum are dedicated to EBMM instruments. I've certainly seen the same fervor regarding Rickenbackers, Fenders and even Gibsons (I'm told they make basses but I'm really not quite sure I believe it).

In any case, glad to have you here, BoogieMan! If the work on my house (which started today) is completed in time, we'll probably have a BassFest here (Highland Village) sometime after 9 March but before 23 March. We generally fondle lots of basses, drink a little, have some eats and stay up way too late making adoring noises over rigs, instruments, etc.

Yeah we lot always catch crap from the big bass forum. "Cultish", "fanboi", "creepy", "weird" are only some of the adjectives used to describe us and/or the forum. I don't care. It's not as much the products but the people who make and stand behind them that I place my loyalties on.
Many folks don't "get" what EBMM does for their customers. It is well documented that EB doesn't discriminate if you don't have a million dollar recording contract and you only play in your bedroom. They will take care of you even down to a personal level if warranted. They will accept you and invite you to open houses, trade shows, etc etc even if you're a nobody.

    Other Forums

I lurk in TB every now and then; and I sort of find it interesting. But I can't stand HC's forums.

I find HC's general tone to be very offensive on many counts. I don't think HC projects a good image for their advertisers. I only visit their user reviews.

    Count me in.

    Jack,

Let me know when you do this. I would like to come over if my teenage daughter's schedule allows.

I was in my bed sleeping with my basses when I decided to wake up and go to my computer. Lo and behold, I turned it on and read this.

I believe THAT 100%... no questions asked. True to form, Mr. (and I know the Mrs. was all snuggled up, too. )

It's funny how the inanimate animates the animal instinct in us (say that fast five times ). I remember BP saying/implying somewhere, "C'mon guys, it's just a bass" (my paraphrase). What's cool is we're all committed to the stuff for various reasons, it draws us together like flies and we can talk about it and play with it without taking ourselves too seriously (I hope ). Other than BP & Co. having to (rightfully) protect the name and image of the company/product when some of us (me ) pop off about the wrong thing or in the wrong way, it's mostly just a controlled diversion with some helpful information and advice thrown in. I don't mind getting called out or corrected here; learn from it and help improve the community.

If you narrow the focus of and moderate the discussion, as is done here, everyone can benefit from both zeal and knowledge. On the big boards, you typically get zeal without knowledge- mostly just fervent opinion or bashing without basis.

As far as the product goes, I had never even considered MM. I was sold on it by a dealer who was himself vested in the product. From there, I recognized the VALUE in the product and the company, and that is why I spend my money with EBMM. Other than that, "C'mon guys, it's just a bass."

The entry price for joining the EBMM cult is not that severe, so no need to go that far. Jack and the gang will be more than happy if you just bring a bass and beer.

YOu know you just have to look at the criticism coming from a board of random diehards directed at a focused group of diehards and I have to say...What do you expect?....

Be it talk bass harmony Central...(which is not so secretly owned by guitar center)it kind of like a stage 1 burn victim making fun of a stage 2....

The sad part about HC is that they bill the forum as "The #1 Online Community for Musicians". It's certainly far from that and there's literally zero moderation, so 90% of threads there are not even music related.
