My new Musicman Stingray Classic Deluxe(New live pics)

Here you go. Right out of the box. She's a beauty! I knew that I would like the lacquered board better than the satin one. More to come on it but here some pics to drool on.

I'm confused. Is this the same bass you bought a few weeks ago and posted pics? Or did you return it and buy the deluxe version instead? Or do you now have both versions?

BTW I like this one better than the 'standard' one you had or have.

Patiently awaiting these and the 5 version to show up at GC or BC or anywhere in powder blue.

    Congratulations!

I really like that color. I've been GASing over a Classic Series StringRay 5 in mint green with a rosewood fretboard and the same pickguard/pickup cover combo. My only minor complaint is having the input jack on top, but I still want one!

Great pics. I can't wait to see the pics of your fretless Big Al 5 when that arrives.

    That's a real nice one!
I love the white on white pup/pg combo.
You called it a classic deluxe btw.
Is that the designation for the premium maple neck upgrade?
I definately see a Coral one in my future now.

I returned the standard version that I bought at G.C. in Nashua NH and bought this deluxe version from the Manhattan NY G.C. I like the sound of the lacquer neck much better than the standard satin neck. Plus as you can see the fiquiring on it is much nicer.

The power blue ones look awesome.

Cool! How do the necks differ in feel? Especially considering the difference in radius and satin vs lacquer.

Lookit that neck! I knew my decision to go with a flamed neck was spot on!

The satin of feels light and smooth. You can feel the wood. The lacquer feels very slick. Like running your hand over very smooth ice. Kinda cold to the touch but man does it sound awesome. The minute I slapped the e string it just rang for days. I have always loved the late 70's basses with the heavy lacquer necks on them for that sound. So I feel like I am back home with this bass. As far as the radius I believe they are the same.
I don't have the satin neck one anymore but it seems to be the same as the lacquer one.

Do you think that it is the lacquer which has such a big influence on the sustain? I would have guessed that only the wood (neck 80% + maybe fretboard 20%) influences sustain and sound. But as i said i'm just guessing....

I don't think the lacquer has a lot to do with the sustain. But I know that it definately has a lot to do with the sound the bass gets. There was a big difference in sound between the satin and lacquer necks. IMO the lacquer won.
