i managed to get it at a good comfortable position right now. although idk what is meant by the amps structural buzzing.
The amp may be buzzing because it's a 15 watt practice amp. Structurally, there's probably not a whole lot of internal bracing inside the box, and running a hot active signal from the SR into said practice amp may simply be overwhelming the little bugger.

I took my JP6 from 2002 to Joe Glaser here in town (where EVERYONE takes their guitars to this guy - and people ship their guitars to him from all over the world to be set up) and he asked me "how low you want it?" and I said "As low as you can get it" thinking ok it'll be a little lower... HA! All I can say is HOLY ****E! The action is so low it's unbelievable and doesn't fret out or buzz ANYWHERE. He's got some million dollar digital plek machine or something that he uses which digitally does everything... It was about $250 but that was a fret dressing, plek and setup so it CAN be done. It's a legato dream come true...I just wish I had done it like 4-5 years earlier when the frets really needed it.

I am officially a Knucklehead! I only own and play EBMM basses! Took a long time to get here but I am really glad I made the trip! Thanks to everyone that has anything to do with making these the fine instruments they are!

damn this guy seems legit. if only there was someone like that here in NY. don't really want to ship my bass all the way to nashville.
I'm telling you - I can't verbally describe how incredible the setup is. In my mind, it was going to be good because he's highly recommended, but it took my instrument to a different league altogether in terms of playability. I had no idea an instrument could be set up that perfectly. Unreal is all I can say and totally worth every dime - I wish I had done it 5 years earlier.
There is another guy at Corner Music here in Nashville who does setups without the PLEK and supposedly he's AS good if not better than Joe, but I cannot confirm nor deny... I know Jeff Beck says he's literally the greatest slide player he's ever heard but that's another whole story...

I do my own set-ups. It's really not magic - just several variables checked, set if needed, one at a time - neck straightness/string height via truss, pickup height, intonation etc.. and don't mess with the saddles (height) unless absolutely necessary. I find minor set-up adjustments are needed usually within weeks or a few months max. The risk and cost of shipping a bass for a set-up seems a bit extreme. I can see getting a pro to return a bass to a proper set-up if it had been badly messed with by a prior owner. Within weeks or months, it's likely going to need further adjustment, so best to know how to do it yourself I figure. I don't think there should be much if any need to change factory saddle heights.

Even though I also do my own set-ups (truss rod, intonation, string height, etc.) the above mentioned Guitar Center set-up/repair man that I know who happens to be a bass player is great to have for my own "peace-of-mind" when needed. He can go that extra mile for me when it comes to "fine tweaking."
I know what it is to be "faithful" to your tech and that's commendable, or if you're great in your own right and if it 's working for you then there's no reason to pursue anything else but I'm just saying, there's literally no setup I've ever had in 22 years of playing that even comes close to having it PLEK'd (FOR ME) but I can only speak from a guitar standpoint - I can't vouch for basses though I imagine it's a slightly different ball game. As I said, there is a guy here who I've had people claim is as good or better than Glaser - and I may just try him out to see so I can put that to rest one way or another. I want to believe he IS better as there's just something cooler about more of a hands on approach and personal touch and TLC that is definitely more inviting than hanging it up in a million dollar machine and pushing a button... LOL - I know there's more to it but you get my point. Maybe...?
