Black Hardware

Alright, so I know you can't get black hardware unless you are getting a stealth model. But I saw a post a while ago of someone who switched their black hardware from a stealth bongo to their cream bongo and the silver hardware from the cream to the stealth.

Just curious... how hard is that to do?

I really want to make my dream a reality... My dream being my Orange Firemist Bongo 6 w/ Black pearloid pg which I already own except with black hardware instead of silver.

And if anyone out there wants silver hardware for their 6 string stealth just tell me

... I'm not expecting it to happen but I figured I'd throw it out there.

I think the hardest part of his swap was the fact that he had a piezo bridge on one of the bongos...

markbass99 did the conversion. I bought the stealth bongo 5 from him after he switched the hardware.

It's true, guilty as charged. I almost didn't do it because the piezo was going to create a lot of work but I decided to take it on as a challenge (because I'm a knucklehead?). If it's just a non piezo swap it wouldn't be that hard, take your time so you don't scratch things. Knowing how to do setups on your basses helps because you're going to throw some things off on both basses, should be easy to tweak back though. Don't swap the neck plate or the jack, those things aren't seen anyway so it won't matter. Then there's the diminished value of the Stealth bass you just robbed, you can sell it for a loss and that's going to be what the hardware cost you. I kind of like the fact you can't get the black hardware so easy, it means the ones that are converted will be rare.

Oh for sure, I'd definitely have a one of a kind bass. I would love to do the switch but I can't afford another bass right now

It's just something I was curious about and am probably going to try once I have money...

Good news (or bad as far as I now know) is that I don't have a piezo on my current bass.

Maybe one day...

You might also want to check if there is a company in your areas that can chrome plate your existing hardware. You can purchase black tuners so the only then you would have to have black plated would be the bridge base, weights and the things the strings ride on (whatever they are called). The screws and springs can probably be found in black on ebay.

Just food for thought.
