    Pickguard Identification

Can someone out there tell me what color the pickguard on this bass is. Is it Black Pearloid, or something else?

    Thanks for the help!

I thought is was, but in a lot of pictures I see of Black Pearloid, it looks much lighter (possibly camera flash making it look like that). It's also possible in other pictures I see on dealer sites that the plastic protective cover has not been peeled off and so they look lighter. This one seems dark and very glossy. After peeling off the plastic covering, is Black Pearloid that dark and shiny? It's not abalone is it?

    Thanks once again.

Here is an example of one that looks real light in color:

Camera flash, plastic covering still on? I really like the look of the original picture I posted, but if Black Pearloid is really light like the second photo, then I'm not too sure about it. The second photo looks almost like it would be called "Grey Pearloid".

The angle of the first pic is making the pickguard look darker. Both are Black Pearloid.

Unless it's caused by camera angle/flash, that first picture has some blue and silver in it which may suggest it's abalone (abalone is also difficult to photograph accurately?)

    Abalone, no flash:

I think it's black pearloid. Those photos from Bass Central - they shoot them straight on with on-camera flash, so it tends to wash things out.

Thanks everyone for jumping in to help me out. Yes, it's definitely black pearloid. I found the original picture on the Bongo Wiki page (Music Man Bongo - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia), and was able to hunt down the guy who posted it. I received an answer today and he confirmed it for me.

    Again, thanks for your help!
