Question Very low volume from Music Man Sting Ray

    Hey guys,

New to the forum, and I thought I'd write here first, get some opinions before I take a soldering iron to my Stingray!
Yesterday at a gig I plugged in my bass (two band EQ) and for some reason it had barely any volume coming out of it, and I have to crank my amp all the way up just to get it to practise level!
Thankfully I had a spare bass, but I tried changing the cables, running straight into the amp (bypassing pedals), new battery etc. and the level didn't change.

Has anyone come across this situation before and if so what did they do? I'm currently pondering if its the jack socket as I've had a few issues with that in recent times...

Since you put in a new battery and you still had the same problem, I would look at the wires going to the battery to see if they've come loose. It's usually the battery!!

also take a look at the metal "pins" that connects to the terminals of the battery. sometimes these get bent too much so there is no contact with the battery..

but take notice.. all this is internet diagnosis which can be as useful as an anchor on dry land

id suggest talking to your dealer. if that doesnt work out, the english distributor (strings and things) would be next point of contact.
if that doesnt work out you could contact eb customer service.. details in my signature

    hth!

just put flats on the bongo!!
just put roundwounds on your fretless!!

    eb customer support:
    E-mail: musicman_customerservice@ernieball.com
    Telephone: +1 866-823-2255

    trussrod adjustment:
less relief / flatter = lower action
more relief / bow = higher action
do NOT use cheap tools to adjust with. they might break and scrape up your pressious!
also, if you are lucky enough to have a 100th namm sr4: the truss works the other way around on that one!

    Internet diagnosis alert!

Yes, check the metal contacts for the battery. If that ain't it, you need to take it to someone who can test the separate components.

Because as I've often said, we can't actually see your bass from here.

Aha! Closer inspection on the battery compartment and the live cable has pulled away ever so slightly! Easy fix!

Thanks for all your help peeps!
