my 4h rules the playground.. it has a familiar stingray h sound to it, but its own character. warmer, rounder, bigger.. more hifi-ish in a way.. lower bass, higher highs, very good dynamics.
also its alive.. try harmonics on your bongo. you can even do it on the 2nd fret.. hehe
pinched harmonics are way easier to achieve than on the stingray. you dont have to be so accurate to get it to ring..

    i love it
but then again i love all my eb basses

oh.. dont forget to try flats on the bongo. there is something magical about the bongo and flats. its that warmth combined with the thump that takes it over the edge

    MrM
just put flats on the bongo!!
just put roundwounds on your fretless!!

    trussrod adjustment:
less relief / flatter = lower action
more relief / bow = higher action
do NOT use cheap tools to adjust with. they might break and scrape up your pressious!
also, if you are lucky enough to have a 100th namm sr4: the truss works the other way around on that one!

I love my Music Man 4H Bongo BFR Roasted Neck. She is my number 1 go to bass. I also have a Dargies Delight II Bongo 4HH. Both are great basses but have subtle differences. The main reason why I love the Single H is because of the roasted neck. It simply looks killer. I do like the placement of the single H pickup over the HH configuration but the HH configuration is not bad either. I bought my DDII off of BP's recommendation about the Bongo's and was really impressed. He then sqaid he actually preferred the single H version of the Bongo which sparked my curiosity. Having seen that the Bongo did not disappoint me when I bought it without ever playing one, I decided for the next one to go the single H route to see how they compared. What was also cool was I knew that BFR Roasted neck would be rare in a Bongo 4H configuration. In fact, I think only 4 were made like that. Mine is a definite keeper and I have no plans of ever selling it. As far as future Bongo's go, I can see myself ordering at least 1 more of each configuration like that. They are great basses that I have really come to love.

Here are some pictures of mine.

To add on to Jay's post... A few more pics of a Roasted Bongo 4H...

Being a former owner of a Bongo 4HH, 5HSp, and 4Hp and a non-roasted 4H this is the best of the lot. I sold my prized 30th Stingray shortly after getting this one as I knew it just wouldn't get played. JOSH

I also LOVE my Single H Bongo (also a Roasted neck model). I agree with everything MrMusashi said about the tone description. It's quite different than the HH and HS models. It definitely seems to fall more in line with the Stingray/Sterling H lineage but with a fatter, warmer, bigger sound. It's punchy and tight as hell and provides a lot of note definition, clarity and extended frequency response (which is great for chording) while still providing, at its essence, a very warm sound.

I used to have a Bongo HS but after getting the H it just won me over. I've since sold my Sterling H and Bongo HS (YMMV etc). As Jay said, it's BPs favourite and also a favourite of other notable cats on the forum like Jack (Lord Bongo) and adouglas.

Just for fun here's a few threads posted by Craig Young (Nashville session pro) about his experience with his Bongo 6H.

It will be a Bongo year for me, mine is on order. I have just changed the order (setting me back another month or so) to an Hp. I have been enjoying my 5HSp with the piezo as part of the mix. Gotta have the piezo on the 4H!!!! Haven't updated my signature yet. Can't wait to get it

    Just updated my signature......

Flats for sure....LOVE the way flats sat tone-wise with the 4HH - did a whole 10 song EP with just the 4HH and Group II Flats....so fat and present without being too much.....

thanks guys! Please keep that single H porn coming as well!!

Each time I hear a single H (on you tube etc.) I think...that's what I want...its like (just in my opinion ...and wtf do I know) the most evolved MM sound....and I love the MM sound - my SUBs have a stupid number of gigs under their belt and methinks as much as I like Bongo HH...I really want the H....give me the H!! Now to find one somewhere to try.....

I have had and still have a couple of great single H Bongos. As JayDawg says, my numbah one is a single H, albeit a fiver. There is nothing it cannot do.

I also have a really nice 4H, though. I don't think this is really a "soothing picture" but it should maybe tell you all you really need to know about the single H four bangers:

    Any questions?
