    musicman classic ray mods

hey guys new to this forum i normally spend my time on OZbass forum but i thought i might start looking around here.
I play a Musiman classic stingray 2010 4H and love it to bits very nice bass, through a fender bassman 300 pro and a berg NV412.
I was thinking about adding a push pull volume knob on my ray to switch between active / passive. Does anyone think i will loose any value etc.
Also i was wondering what kind of mods others do on the stingays as they pretty much rock stock standard but am i missing out by keeping mine standard..

Anyway I hope to hear from some of you.

    cheers Carl

    Welcome!

My 2 cents - a push/pull volume knob won't affect value. I haven't modded any of mine, so I can't speak to what is possible. One thing I have learned here, though; No Pics = No Bass (ie; we'd love to see her!).

    Enjoy the forum Carl.

First, welcome! You won't find a lot of mods being done by the forum guys. Pickguard changes, maybe - and some guys change the finish on their necks, but electronic type modifications are mostly viewed as unneeded and unnecessary. "They pretty much rock stock standard" is the prevailing view.

    Welcome to the Forum Carl.

IMO the Classic Ray doesn't need any mods. But if you decide to do some make sure you can always return it to its original condition.

hey guys i figured not many players modding the stingrays. i will get some pics up hopefully at some point today. the push pull (active/passive) volume knob should be easy enough to mod bak to original but i will leave that for my guitar tech to confirm.
And hopefully i will be buying a big al 4SSS fretless within the next few months which should help out in getting a wider range of tines

Well, I got one proposal to You, ...don't touch anything just do as follows:

Classic SR don't have center click position bass/treble knobs, ...they are actually kinda only boost knobs, ...so, turn them both all the way counterclockwise and You'll get kinda flat passive original pickup tone!

    Just sayin'!

Interesting... That's basically the third opinion about the Classics tone control...
Ed Friedland: bass and treble = boost/cut
rutgart: bass = boost only, treble = boost and cut
keko: bass and treble = boost only

    I'm confused...

You have overlooked word kinda, well due to my bad English maybe I should used words like: approximately,
    about, around...or something like that?

So, to correct myself, not 100% sure about those tone knobs, but when tried one Classic SR5 exactly like Yours Black'n'Maple birdseye..., I had a feeling when both tone knobs were full counterclockwise that tone is about 2 band standard Ray when in center click position?

If I'm wrong, let someone from EBCS correct me please!
