Mistake in selling my 90s stingray classic for a Rick 4003! looking to rebuy help!

This is my 1st post. i sold my blonde 90s classic stingray last year as it felt a bit polite sounding....but listeing to previous mixes/records i have made realised it was a cool vibe
My new rick 4003 lacks bass and vibe
i do mainly electro rock disco indie and now looking to rebuy a music man stingray

my previous stingray had a maple neckthe new gilded white ltd edition is at the top of my list. will this give me that new wave Simon gallup (cure) certain ratio, chic disco vibe with indie!

pro advice would be much appareciated

my concern is the passive/actve circuits and rosewood knceck

Rickenbackers= uncomfortable....the binding kills me...and the pickup cover is in the way.

Rickenbacker=looks cool,sounds like crap

Stingray=looks great and sounds even better.

Mistakes are easily fixed

Do you mean that you want a bass that can do both active and passive? If that's the case a Stingray wont do that for you, you'd want either a Big-Al or Reflex/25th Anniversary (that is unless something new has happened at NAMM that I have yet to hear of).

If you just want a Stingray and you're looking for something with some versatility I'd suggest trying the HH model. There are some amazing pick-up sounds on there. Recently I've been using the pick-up position 4 (assuming 1 is closest to the neck) more than 5 (standard Stingray sound) because the tone is just so meaty and awesome!

M Silvers - the gilded classic LE has a passive/active push pull knob and a passive tone control.

I have a maple necked Classic and it does that Chic thing perfectly - in fact it's the essence of Classic MM sound - very flexible, suitable for any genre, and capable of being anything from refined to vicious dependent on how you want to play. The rosewood board will likely take a little of the top end, though not enough to be a problem, and may be capable of sounding a little more woody sounding than the maple. They are 2 band - you didn't mention whether your 90s Ray was a 2 or 3 band EQ.

A 3 band gives a little more flexibility to boost the mid range from the bass - to be honest I just use the mid range EQ on the amp if I feel the need to do this in a live setting.

Both 2 band and 3 band Stingrays are great.

My old one looked a bit like this.......3 eq i guess? 90s.....alwyas felt a bit bass light but liked the mids and highs...I have listened to the 2 eq mp3 clips on here and 2 eq sounds more bass? so looking for either pre earni or this one taht will cover the breeders, cure , chic ect! thanks guys for all your help....gonna buy soon

I used to have an '81 exactly like this. Oli@bass has it now. Spectacular bass for sure! That 81-83 era had the most slender feeling necks, you'll be grinning ear to ear.

went to buy the 81 model but they dont accept credit cards....Grrr so now thinking of waiting for a 70s pre earnie to come in at andy baxter bass in London or maybe buy the gilded whit limited edition as my wife loves it!!! any last thoughts?

@Mike how does ur 07 and 78 model differ in terms of recording? I will only use in the studio

Well, they do differ. Both are 2eq, but the 07 bass is brighter on the topend, and the 78 is deeper on the lowend.
You should try a Classic series Ray. I had one and they were alot closer because of the finished neck and smaller frets.
