A close friend bought a Marcus Miller 4. I've tried it a few times, and I never grew to like it. Quality is a good thing. Value aside (which is a poor trade, btw), the MusicMan is much better, and I wouldn't be able to recommend that trade.

I would say that fret sprouting is when the frets lift up off the fret board ,for what ever reasons.

You are supposed to know these things and keep the conversations to ,

Gush ,gush ,trans teal or pacific blue burst, gush, gush.

frets protrude from the edge of the fretboard &
may feel kinda sharp on your hand. Wood
    expands and contracts, frets don't.

pacific blue burst all the way . . gush

First off, I'll say that you're going to hard pressed to find anyone here that will say you should trade...

Secondly, I used to have a MM4 Jazz. The quality, tone, and playability are the reasons I bought it. Not because it says Marcus Miller in the brochure. However, I can't say that when played side by side, which they were, that trading is a good thing. I agree with what someone said earlier, keep the SR5, get it fixed if it needs it, and save up for the Jazz. MHO.

    Good luck

    "Update"

    Hey Y'all,
After posting this question a while back, my prayer's have been answered. I'd been looking for a Marcus for a while, and after contacting this particular music store about a possible trade, my wife seen the return e-mail from the store. Long story short, my wife said "Get It", and in another week, i'll have the Marcus, brand new, $625.00..... and still have the Sr5! Good thing's come to those who wait, and if their wife is also a musician!

    Peace,
    Bobbo 77'
