    Question Question!!

    Hello!

My name is Steven, and I recently bought a Music Man Sting ray with serial number B004321. It's got a natural finish but I guess it hasn't got the original lacquer anymore! Also the pickguard is gone! The neckplate has got 3 screws, and the serial number is there. The bridge has got holes voor mutes, but they are gone. Also the nut is made of copper! Can anyone tell more about this bass? What is original, what is not? It sounds great!

There a little ploblem with the intonation saddles, they should be further forward, but they can't move anymore, or they fall off the screw! So in the high positions she's not tuned that well... How come the bridge isn't placed higher?

If anyone can tell me more, please do so!!

Thank you! (and sorry for my bad English, I'm a Belgian)

    Best regards!

    Steven

    hey,
only 3 screws in theneck plate? that makes it a pre-EB I guess. About the neck saddles, you should go to your local shop and ask for a set-up.

Welcome to the EB family .
    btw: I'm from Belgium too

A late 1977 model would be my educated guess.

Have you changed the strings? Extremely old strings can be impossible to intonate, and that may be the problem with the bridge.

Wasn't there a girl bass player from Belgium that was posting here a few weeks ago? That would make 6.
Starting to think about returning to bass playing in the very near future.

    Steven,

Originally, the bridge positioning resulted in the intonation screws being adjusted to their limit. To compensate, Music Man began moving the bridge closer in the direction of the pickup. So, during the 1976/77 period, you'll find Basses with either of the two bridge positions.

But, as Jack said, try a new set of strings.

You'll find that the nut is probably made of brass. That would have been replaced by the previous owner. Pretty sure they didn't have brass as a factory option.
