My P originally had a black guard but that changed to tort and I haven't looked back. Go for the Tort!
Starting to think about returning to bass playing in the very near future.

I have a honeyburst SR4 with maple fingerboard that came with a black pickguard. I put a white guard on it and like it better. However, I think that honeyburst with rosewood looks better with a darker pickguard. Can't go wrong with tort.

I'm sure he'll be blushing when he reads it.

I alternate between Black & White on my Honeyburst/rosewood.
I also have white pearloid but that doesn't looks as good on HB IMO.
(white pearloid does look good on my burnt apple tho)
I think I like plain white best (see Morrows avatar)

philthygeezer - My honeyburst was the prettiest until I saw yours. Pretty obvious that your a photographer. What kind of lighting did you use? Anyway, you certainly made your case for a black pickguard on a honeyburst/rosewood SR.

cgworkman - Sent you an E-mail but not sure you got it. Would like to know where you got your black and tort pickguards. I know EB has black but can't find tort as an option. I see shell if that's what EB's tort is (tortishell?) but it seems to have red highlights. Yours seems to be more brownish and a little more subdued which gells well with my laidback personality.

Yeah, thanks cgworkman. Got your E-mail after I had already posted. I didn't realize that EB had that "build your own instrument" program. Apparently the sample tort or shell as they call it just looks more red than it does on the actual bass. It could be because the sample is a close up, not sure.

The tort guard on my SR5 came from Ernie Ball's customer service department.
