    Question ognoB

I’m new here and I really enjoy this site and my new SR5. I keep hearing great things about the Bongo from happy owners here. At first I thought it was ugly, and then it started growing on me, now I think it’s cool.

    I suffer from a severe disability… I’m left handed.

I’ve made peace with my condition over the years and have made adjustments, like getting used to the tone knobs on my amp being reversed, the zippers on my gig bags being on the wrong side, stuff like that.

I’ll quit beating around the bush, you can tell me the truth, I can take it, there are no lefty Bongo’s… right?

You are right. There are no lefty Bongos. Although I play the bass right handed, I am left handed too so I know where you're coming from. I always tell people that my golf handicap is that I play left handed. The only reason I play righty is that when I started playing, left hand basses were extremely rare. About the only ones available were a few of the manufacturer's top end models. Now you can find them in all price ranges. I've seen brand new left hand basses for as little as $120! Not one that I would want to play today, but they might be good for a starter bass.
Starting to think about returning to bass playing in the very near future.

You could always flip a Bongo over and string it upside down like Jimmy Haslip would do at times. Just an Idea

DO NOT DO THIS - It only makes things worse for the rest of us who refuse to treat being left-handed as a handicap.

I do believe that left-handed Bongo's are in the master plan. They aren't available yet, and there may not be an established date, but they *do* plan to make them down the road.

If there is a rough time frame for availability, maybe Big Poppa will chime in. But I don't think it's been nailed down yet. My bass player is also a lefty who is interested in a Bongo. That's why I'm keeping my ears open on this subject.. apparently they don't have a left-handed computer so that he could do it himself.

Well… the only way I can explain it would be for a right hander to pick up one of my lefties and try to play it. I guess it’s just how it feels to you, noting with my right hand feels more natural to me.

Odd. I am left handed and I feel more comfortable fretting with my left hand. I always thought guitars and basses were backwards. Seems more logical to me that you'd want to fret with the more dexterous of the two hands.

Of course the "nuns" in little league forced me to learn to bat righthanded. I'm already tainted But I have a hellacious backhand in tennis

I'm sinister-handed and proud of it!

Finding a great lefty bass is hard enough, but finding all the necessary accessories is a real pain and expensive! I have my music store special order left handed straps, lefty strings, lefty cables and so forth.

(But I’ll let you in on a little secret, right handed digital tuners work just fine, as do righty polishing cloths.)

It is a weird , isnt it? I can fret wayyy better with my left hand than my right and i am righty, and im guessing this is usually the case. I guess someone figured that out when they invented guitars.

I know what you mean. My drummer is left handed and he has a really hard time finding left handed sticks.

I'm left handed too, but I play the bass right handed, which is a bit strange, but hey.

Heh--my drummer played the SuperBowl when it was in Atlanta a couple of years ago. The only issue was that he had to use Phil Collin's drumkit. Unfortunately, Phil is left handed, and has his highhat, and everything else on the opposite side of the kit than every other drumkit in the world.

So, my buddy Doug had to play for the 70,000 in attendence, and the millions around the world watching on tv with a bass ackwards kit.

    Good times.

That's three of us. Any other lefties playing righty out there?
