See, if you jive all night long, your hips will eventually be shot. That's where a Hipshot detuner comes in handy. Slap it on, give it a few turns, and your hips will be detuned. Just leave them like that for a while so they can get a good amount of R&R before another night of boppin'n'jivin'.
Doesn't take much... you just have to read hipshot

does it work(or would there be any conceivable reason to have it) on a B string on a 5er?
Yes and no.
Got them on both of my 4's and love them. Tried an experiment with them on my 5 not too long ago. It works fine (once you dial in the fine tuning) but there isn't anything I can think to use it on (not to mention that the string tension just goes to hell - might be ok on a 36" scale but not on a 34 without some adjustments)

I wasn't educated in the Pittsburgh school system, so I may be wrong, but my guess is that the Hipshot Detuner is a detuner.

Doesn't that make it a "D" Tuner!?![]()

That would be unnecessary on a 5er. You'd hit a note and make people crap themselves from the vibrations lol.
I've got one coming for my SR4 as a few of our songs require it. I can manually de-tune obviously, but thought this would be far quicker (and reliable!).
when you flip the switch does it always go to the same note or does it have like notchs for each note? Do you get that like. can it only go from e to c or can it go from e to d to c all with the flip?

I'm cool enuff, thanks. Don't need no 5.
It basically drops a note down one tone. i.e E-D. I guess you could use it in an alternative tuning, but I'll be going E-D.
More on the hipshot website no doubt, I think there are links in this thread.
You set it up yourself to a specific interval. I think the maximum is a fourth (e.g. E to B). I gather it's not something you can set up in between tunes as it takes quite a bit of fiddling about to set the detuning interval, but once you're there it's accurate. It's a great way to get a flabby, indistinct tone through tension loss (IMHO).Originally Posted by Urwordsbreakmed
