    Sustain

What's the secret with the EBMMs?

They ring on and on with the best of the neck-throughs and last I checked, all are bolt-ons.

Ask that question of a hundred people and you'll probably get a hundred different answers. To me, it could mean that the 'conventional wisdom' is not so wise after all.

People tend to accept the things that are said over and over and over again as fact.

For example, setneck instruments have better sustain than bolt-ons. Do they? Hell if I know, I don't have a lab or test equipment or the desire to run scientific tests, but I know that my bolt-on basses sustain just fine.

And really, how long do you want a bass to sustain anyway?

and on that note if you really want it to sustain long why dont you get an EB because they're the best bass ever and buy a Compression Pedal or something to sustain it?

I'm trying to think of the longest note I ever wanted, and you know what?

    It just wasn't that long.

I'm more about thump than ring, though.

I think sustain may be more in the amp settings than the bass myself. A whole note covers how many beats? I never go over a whole note.

Nigel Tufnel: The sustain, listen to it.
Marty DiBergi: I don't hear anything.
Nigel Tufnel: Well you would though, if it were playing.

That bigass chunk of a bridge contributes a lot to sustain.

That will also depend on the time signature / pace of the tune you're playing.

That said, I agree 100%, ain't never gonna happen to me.
