    Question Binding Tuners

Okay, so I come across this problem from time to time on used basses: tuning keys that bind with each turn (almost like they'll pop right off the headstock!).

I've got the original tuners for my '79 Sabre, and would like to keep the bass as stock as possible. Is the binding a sign of worn gears?

Can you compare the gears to the ones on a newer bass?

They look quite robust on MM basses, so I'm not sure it would be the cause.

But I've been wrong more than once

binding gears are usually a bent shaft on the key or oxidation. try some 3in1 oil on them.
