Do I want the AL???

Hi all,

I have recently been getting more and more into the sound of a tele, but I simply cannot stand the average telecaster shape. For some reason I have actually never even owned a Fender - and I like things to stay that way

So the big question is if the Albert Lee s-s-s might do the trick for me? I read somewhere that the neck pickup should be somewhat tele'ish! I already own a Axis sport with mm90's and a Silo s. with a SD fast track in neck and don't seem to get the supreme tele funk/country sound out of those(but they offer lots of other fantastic sounds none the less )

hope to get some help as the Al is not the easiest thing to come by for testing here in Denmark....

Have you tried tracking down an Albert Lee DVD? They're easier to find than the guitar and it'll give you an idea of what the guitar sounds like and is capable of.

this was the first time that I had come across an AL, and after I managed to track one down to play, I just had to get one.

I was after a TELE type of guitar (Although I have a custom Tele it hs twin stacked coils and more like a Gibson than a Tele!)

I have therefore gone for the S-S-S pickup configuration to get the Tele sound plus more!

Take a look at my posting "is the Albert Lee the greatest guitar that nobody bought" - I'm a big fan of them and will be showing mine to the world when I get it!!

Look ast it this way. Albert Lee was known as one of THE great tele style players when HE made the switch and never looked back. (It's not like he stopped covering the first 25 or so years of his catalogue pre signature model)

The bridge pickup is designed to give you the classic sound you expect and the rest of the configuration makes it much more versatile for anything and everything else.

Balance, weight, neck and design make it the most comfortable guitar you will ever strap on and the look says "Hey, I'm the cat's pajamas" (or something like that) not just another big name clone drone.

Either way it sounds I don't think it is possible to be unhappy with any of the EBMM's - I know I would like to have one of each (atleast one )

Dude, I have never heard of anybody not liking the AL. From the looks of it your on your way to owning the whole lot of them.

I've owned 4 AL's and 3 teles over the years...in my opinion I don't think the AL sounds much like a tele. That tele bridge sound comes from that big fat pickup and weird metal bridge. And certainly the AL neck sounds nothing like a tele neck pickup.

Also, tele sounds vary...a '52 doesn't sound like a '62 custom, which doesn't sound like a 2005 deluxe.

I think the AL s/s/s sound is much closer to a strat, but really it is it's own thing.

Currently I have a Rio Grande Stelly in the bridge position on my s/s/s, and it gets pretty close.

i've never heard a strat brige pickup that sounds as good as the al's bridge.
the al's bridge p.u has a plate installed under the bridge coil to create the same tele plate effect to the tone.......& i find it works very well indeed !!!!! as far as the neck p.u........that tele neck pickup just ain't all that anyways. the tele sound is really about that twanging fat bridge tone.

It just doesn't sound like a tele to me...and I'm ok with that. The AL is it's own bad self.

Reminds me of that great bit Jay Mohr does about long transatlantic flights and how after sitting in that small uncomfortable seat for so many hours you can't help but smell like ass.
