I didn't renew my subscription when it expired, just Guitar World for me.

After a Dregs show, I hung around to "meet n greet" Steve Morse. I had wanted to ask him a question for a while, and I finally got my chance. I told him that his column "Open Ears" was one of the most inspiring columns I ever read, and how a reader didn't have to be a guitar player (or even a musician for that matter) to be influenced by his wise writings. My question was "will Open Ears ever make a comeback?" His response to me was something like: "When Guitar For The Practicing Musician changed to Guitar One, the target demographic changed. Now it's a magazine for angry, young guitarists. I'm not an angry young guitarist."

From the man's lips. I'll assume the answer is no. I'm not an angry, young guitarist either.

I only picked it up (first time ever) as it was 10th anniv. issue with some pretty cool stories is all.

Didn't guitarist or guitar techniques or one of the bif guitar publications have a series of videos with lukather sitting in a hotel room or suite somewhere playing little tidbits? I think they were on the free CDs. Would anyone be able to lead me towards these? I've seen a few on MyTube.com but woujld love the originals?

Yeah, I know about the book. I never picked it up, but I've read every column though, as they came out in the mag. While it was running, every time the new issue showed up in the mail, the first thing I'd do was go right to Steve. Coolest column ever. It would be nice to have them to read through again. I'm curious too, Janice, about the differences in the 2 editions.

Although the book indicates it is a complete collection of the printed articles, Thom once told me that the articles and the book are not the same. The book only has the text from the articles. If you collected all the issues with the articles, you should have some extras that are not in the book but were a part of the magazine. I'm not sure exactly what those are - maybe some tab. Anyone recall? Also, since I don't have the articles or the first edition, I can't compare the two. Maybe, at some point, I can convince Thom to dig through his copies of the actual magazines for answers.

I got the open ears guitar one. And yeah, it seems to be missing notation examples.

But if that's all that's missing, I don't mind. Plenty of tab available elsewhere.
What I love about the writings is Steve's philosophy and personality really come out.

His website has great interviews with him, but many of the questions are sinilar from interview to interview.

These writings really capture the essence of who he is. (not that I know him, just that it seems to come from someplace deep within.

I've really got to pick that up. I remember reading those columns, thinking what a cool guy.

Read the Alex Lifeson (hometown boy) article in Guitar Player yesterday. The interviewer asks him about other guitar players - off the bat he says "Steve Morse is one of the nicest people I've ever met."

Oh dear....I was talking about the Steve Lukather columns and videos that came on the CDs. What mag was that and does anyone have any copies of all the videos? Mytube.com has a few posted. They rock and would love to see the whole series! Tristan....do you know? Ali told me to ask you if you're listening in!

Not sure about what mag knox, but you can pick up Lukes Los lobotomys DVD for about $15. Lots of great playing and close ups on that for the price of one british guitar magazine

Already have it m8....Most of our UK mags are around £4.50 - £5.00 which at current rates is about $10....If you want quality you gotta pay for it...!
