If you want to recreate that early Satch sound, all you need is a DDL , Boss DS-1 (the orange pedal), a wah and the clean channel (he didn't use the dirty channel on his Marshall's). For all those years he had that basic set-up. Oh and one more thing, one hell of a legato technique.

    here is my 2p worth.
It does not matter!!!!!!!! Yes folks, i think the sound is in your fingers and style. J--find a sound that is good to your ears then play your Vai, satch, and santana truff. Mess around with pedals and setting till you feel you have the J-sound--then go for the solos in your own style.

IMO things change a bit when you are buying very expensive equipment, but you still end up sounding like you.

Thats why we play----millions of variable abd choices. You are looking for the Holy Grail....YOUR OWN SOUND. (exciting yes)

You're right. I just don't want to end up with a crunchy sound. Both on clean and distortion channels. But then again, it's all in your fingers and pickup swtiching combinations

Junior ,I've just realized that I have your entire wishlist listed in your signature. Everything except the Marshall. Good choice of gear to strive for, especially the Steve Morse guitar.

Even the talkbox and the Bosses?

I know... that's why I'm striving for it

Actually, I'd like an LP, too, but I consider the EBMMSM to be one heck of a good guitar, and I think that I could get it sound just like an LP. And a Strat. And A Jackson. And everything else ....I'll probably buy a Epiphone LP muuuuuuuuuuuuch much later

Yep, that exact same one. One little word of advice about the talk box, if you don't use it correctly it will sound just like a wah, you need a PA and the novelty wears off pretty quick. But that model is the best because it's safer than the Heil.

    What's novelty?

I'll go through the PA when I buy it and play with the band. I have no PA in my room where I practice, so...

    +1
    Beej is spot on.
You have to really crank the Marshall to get the sound.
The POD XT works great with my Marshall which I now use I guess, as a Tube power amp.

If you want good tone at low volume I can recommend the Vox valvetronics, save up and get the 60 watt version and you'll be ok for stage use too.

Get a full on valve amp and your neighbours will be banging on the door!

Novelty = gimmick. I have it here in my studio and I keep saying I'll record with it one day. When you use the banshee the sound comes up the plastic tube and hit's the palette inside your mouth and then is picked up by the mic. The sound to your amp is bypassed, you could set up a switching system to play both sounds? There is a bit of an art playing at the same time, this may require a little getting used to?(you can't look at your guitar and look straight into the mic at the same time) Make sure you have good foldback. At the end of the day it was a lot of fiddling compared to the amount of time spent using it. Brown eyed girl and Blister in the sun don't really have much room to put talkbox in them

I know how the talkbox works. I spent much time on the internet gathering information, and talked to experienced people about it, so I could say I know how it works.

But I don't understand the thing about the Brown eyed girl and the Blister in the sun deal...

While I have tube amps, I can get a really good "Always With Me" tone from both my Vox Tonelab and POD XT Live. In fact, I was just getting ready to record "Always With Me" on a backing track I downloaded yesterday.

How 'bout a Carvin Legacy 2x12" combo? I think it'd do the trick

Sorry, I didn't check this thread in a while. Go to: http://guitarplanet.free.fr/index.htm. They have the backing tracks there. Free.
