    Hmm very strange!

Hey guys need to pick someone's brain about this one. Last night was practising the solo to out in the fields and as i bended up on the 1st E string it snapped. Ok i thought i have been giving the guitar a bit of abuse as of late i thought it would be a normal break like at the bridge etc. But on close inspection the bottom of the string (which holds the end ball on) had broke. I don't know if this is a faulty string or just a common breakage with a EBMM JP. The strings i'm using is d'addarios 10-46 gauge.
    Any help greatly apreciated guys

Wouldn't know about that brand, I use Ernie Ball RPS strings and have never had that happen. The RPS are reinforced at the ball end and come standard on the JP's... Give 'em a try.

This has happened to me a lot lately. I am not sure why, either. I am using EB Hybrid strings and my JP has regularly broken the ball ends on the G, B and high E strings... sometimes without even playing them, just stringing up a new set!

It has also happened on my Strats, as well. My only recourse has been to "tin" the unwound strings before putting them on. That is the process of soldering the wrap and ball to reinforce it before putting it on the guitar. This seems to work well, but it is a hassle. Not sure if I just got a bad batch of strings, but this is the first time I have ever seen this happen so consistently.

Unfortunately, this happened/happens on my Axis again and again (and again and again). Honest to God, I've broken more E's on that puppy in 2 years than all my other guitars combined in 10 years! What's really odd is that the break is NEVER at the nut or bridge-it's always either as you've described it OR at the actual fretwire.
When I think of all the beers I could've bought with those single E's....

I've seen this alot both with D'Addario and EB strings of late....sometimes I have the plains (mostly E and B) break while restringing...now I've been rocking and jocking for like 20 years...this is nutty...

... as a confirmed heritic I use only thomastik-infeld power brights or super alloys (...um... or DR tite-fits if I can't find the afore mentioned somewhat expensive hard to find at my local retailer strings... )

I'm apparently REALLY REALLY lucky: I have never broken a single string on any of my MM's !

Wel I'm relieved to know that it aint just me thot it might be a problem with the guitar. Hmm i was thinking that maybe the string/nut etc might not be lubricated properly cause more friction at some point. I don't know but when i used to have my old ibeenhad i used to oil all the contact points and the string life was better. This is the first time i've used locking tuners with a trem so i'm in the dark on this one any info from the guys in the know would be much appreciated

The first time I re-strung my JP6, I snapped the 1st and 2nd strings. The next time, I snapped another high 'e' string. Then, I figured out that i was overcranking the tuning key (using one of those little plastic peg-turning devices). When re-stringing other guitars, I'd need to crank it quite a bit before the string tension was correct. With the JP6, the string got tight very quickly with miminal turning of the tuning key. Ever since then, I've been cautious about the tension and I haven't snapped another string on the JP6.
