    EBMM Dealers in the UK

I went to a EBMM dealer at the weekend, some distance away from home (you have to travel to find them over here). The shop had several new guitars and a couple of used ones, I took the opportunity to try a MM90 and a Morse as I have never been able to get my hands on either before, both stunning especially the Morse neck. I told the owner that there were no dealers in my city (Leeds), he was not surprised, he also said that the guitars were very popular and usually get snapped up quickly, so I said why don’t you keep more in stock?..he shrugged.

This seems to be the attitude in a lot of UK shops, I think they are reluctant to stock the guitars because they see it as some sort of risk??. Everyone that has seen my guitar has commented that the quality is superb, but the have also asked ‘where did you get it from?. I’ve mentioned this in previous posts, it’s nice to have a ‘rare’ guitar but I just wish there were a few more around.

EBMM adverts have started to appear more in UK mags (there is a good one in Guitar Buyer this month) but the stockists are few and far between. In the UK we have one large chain guitar shop, I have asked the guys there about the guitars and their responses have been ‘do they make guitars?, I thought they only made basses’, and ‘we stock OLP and a couple of Subs’. They don’t seem very enthusiastic at all, I think this would be different if someone put a guitar in their hands.

The guy in the bass department in the shop I visited said that Strings & Things (UK distributor) are very good to deal with and deliver quickly, which adds to my confusion about the dealer’s reluctance.

BP, are there any new plans for marketing over here? I think the UK is a bit of a missed opportunity at the moment, but as you can see on these boards there is strong ‘underground’ following.

Anyway, rant over, I thought the Morse guitar was terrific, it might be a while before I can afford one but it’s definitely next on my list.

    Hey!

I'm from Leeds too (small world eh?) and I have to agree with you on everything you've said. I always get a similar response to my Silo, the last one I got was "Eh?! Don't they make strings?"!

I'm going to try and convince Richard (www.guitars.co.uk www.regentguitars.co.uk) to stock them. Machine Head tend to sell EBMM's but only one by one and never a range or any real amountable stock. In Leeds though, I'm suprised that Music Ground haven't started stocking them as they often seem to be interested in lesser known brands (Tokai, Gordon Smith, etc). Although they may well have a couple in the upstairs bit but I tend not to go there frequently due to GAS. Infact - they do have a couple of SUB's and of course some basses.

By the way, is there anyone that you trust to do setups in the area?

    Cheers.

    Hi,

I would recommend Music Ground for the setup, I think they have a freelance guy that comes in once/twice a week to do them, apparently he is very good. I have noticed the odd 2nd hand EBMM upstairs in Music Ground, you've got to have a few quid to even think of having GAS up there! I can’t afford anything it’s like a museum.

Where did you get your Silo from?

not just a UK problem fellas------I am looking for a Luke and would like to try one first. There are 6 or seven shops in a 100 mile radius that are listed as EBMM dealers and the only guitars any of them have in stock is 2 petrucci's in one shop. All the others have NONE in stock. This is in eastern Pennsylvania.

Pauldogz, I just ordered a Rad Red Luke last week, if you start walking tomorrow you should get here about the time it arrives

Pete - Allentown's only about 4 hrs from you because its a little under two from me continuing SE. That puts it well within the general travel radius for the next PUSMfest.

    Hi Everyone,

Here's a list of the stockists in the UK:

    http://www.stringsandthings.co.uk/MMstockhome.htm

What you guys are doing is absolutely correct. The more you ask about Music Man, the more they will be motivated to stock it.

    Cheers!

Go in there and talk to them about it. Then, ask who their rep at Strings and Things is. Then call that guy and talk him about it. All the blokes at Strings and Things are really great guys, and I know that the dealers have a sort of minimum stocking requirements, so it might be good to scratch at this one...
