JP6 Neck Compared To JP7 Neck

Hey there, i'm a new member, been reading here a long time and decided to jump in the action.

so, let's get down to it... I've been looking to buy a JP for a long time now, the only problem is, I live in israel, and it is very very rare to see any EBMM's here, and i wasn't going to buy a guitar without hearing/playing it myself, on a regular amp, without JP's Mesa/Boogie amps... So, after talking to my teacher a lot about this, he decided to go off and check one himself, and since he plays in one of the biggest bands in this country, they brought one for him to try out and two hours later he called the distirbuter and closed the deal. So, now that he has it, i finally had a chance to play one, and it is awesome. I am completley in love with that guitar.

So now there is only one more problem... my teacher has a JP6, while i want a JP7. now, since it is practically impossible to find one here, i've decided to ask you guys what do you think: If i love the JP6 neck, will it be the same with the 7 string? can i order one without trying it out, or should i wait until i have the oppertunity to check out a 7 string one (which can be years)?

Get the JP7, I play 3 different 7 string neck profiles, plus EBMM Sub's and I'm fine. There will be an initial adjustment period, but that'll be more because of the extra string...and don't think of it as a 7 string, but a six with one extra. You can play everything you can on a six, with your seven, plus a hell of a lot more. ANd with the JP7, comfort shines through, along with tone and playability! Let's not forget about quality and workmanship...

Yes, well, of-course it's wider, what i ment was, will it fell like the JP6 neck, only, as Raz put it, like "a six with one extra", with all of the things i like about the 6, only a bit wider.

And Raz, thanks, you've actually answered another question of mine, of will i able to play it like a six. or basicaly, if this can become my main guitar, both for six and seven string songs.

The times I have played a JP7 I really felt comfortable. It was the only time I didn't feel "lost" playing a 7 string. A cool unique expierence.

IMHO, the 7-string neck feels like a 2x4. It wasn't comfortable for me, even though I play a JP6 as my main guitar. It was nice and flat, and 'thin'... but the width of the fretboard was just too much for my hands.

I'd probably feel the same about any 7 string, though... so if you really want a 7, the JP is probably as good as you'll find.

    Colin,

The JP remains my favorite. It's all about the comfort. I have bad tendonitis and a ganglian cyst on the tendons of the wrist of my fretting hand. This can often make playing unbearable on other guitars, but I can play the JP for hours on end with no discomfort.

I do love the Morse Y2D's sound with the neck pickup selected, though. Gives a great bluesy sound and meaty chords.

The family was gathered at my house the other night and I let my uncle (who hasn't picked up a guitar in a while) play my Y2D through my Roland Micro Cube. I dialed in a nice blackface tone with a little delay, flicked the toggle on the Y2d to 'neck' and let him have at it. He's an old blues player, he used to work the riverboats/barges from Pittsburgh down to New Orleans.

Anway, he was able to play it beautifully and he raved on & on about the guitar.

If you already play a 7, you should be fine, but I held one in my hands about a month ago and it felt like a bass the neck was so humongous.

Not comfortable at all for me.

Maybe your teacher can get them to bring in a 7 to try. I thinks it's a big risk to order one w/o having played it.

Of course, you do lilve in Israel where military service is mandatory so risk is all relative I guess.

    Exactly.

Takes a few days maybe, but after that it's no big deal. Keith you picked it up for
2 seconds and went "nope neck's too big." Try playing on one for a little bit. I
bet your fingerstyle stuff could sound great on a 7.

Another cool thing about the JP 7 is it's VERY easy to switch back to a 6 string.

Feels natural going back & forth. Lots of guys drop tune, but with a 7 string you
can play in standard tuning with your band like normal, then grab a "dropped"
sounding chord whenever you want. You start to grin when you see a C or B
power chord written on a chart...
