    ALBERT body routing!

how is the AL body routed? I got my old bass player hooked on MM's... who got his new guitar player hooked on MM's... and when I was in the US last week I sat in with his band for a while at a dive with an unusually skilled sound manager.

his gp's second guitar was an AL and I had forgotten how much I REALLY liked its body (which is weird because I actually owned one once, then got an axis and stopped playing the AL - which I immediatly sold to get another axis... because I'm an idiot )

...but... I would really like to drop humbuckers into the bridge and neck positions. is the body routed @ the factory for singles only?

Ripley, the routing is whatever configuration you get. There are no swimming pools under the pickguard.

Unless you want to take a router to the body your best bet for humbuckers would be to get either stacked single-coils or some single-coil sized humbuckers like a JB Jr.

Check out the AL with MM90's if you're looking for extra punch beyond the Duncan singles and the silent circuit cleans up the buzz. But, if you really need humbuckers, Dimarzio makes soapbar size humbuckers, including one based on the Tone Zone, which may fit the routes with the 90's. If you went only neck/bridge you'd also need to get a custom guard cut. Check out the Dimarzio site for info.

There's tons of companies, both the well recognized and of the hidden gem variety, that offer hotter p90 replacements and stacked singl coils so that you won't have to route an Albert.

You can always "frankenstein" an AL and slap a triple-bucker and a Wonderbar in it

Send a PM to the forum member art027.

He's done loads of mods to AL's.

The last time I spoke to him he was having a double bender fitted.

Give him my regards and tell him to post "the latest news" to the forum.
    Cheers

    thanks guys.

... now... where's my dremmel tool... I'm sure THAT won't tank my factory warranty....

my amp and efect setup simply doen't work with P-90 style pickups (sounds like a duck chewing tobacco), and stacked & rail style single/hums just aren't the same to my ears.

I may have to get one, suck it up, and have nice humbucker shaped holes gouged out of it...

... or get a sil and sand the body down till it looks like an AL....

Do a google on "shed pickups" in the UK.
I know Burke Shelley (Budgie) has them in his Bass and they sound awesome.
I've heard his single coils and his humbuckers and they are some of the finest pickups I've heard.
A reviewer in Guitar and Bass magazine reviewed a guitar with his pickups in and bought it !
IF I had to change my pickups they would be these.
He'll re wind your own pickups too.
    This guy MAKES AWESOME PICKUPS!!!!

Edit : but his web sites not too clever - I couldn't hear the samples!!
