I had a word with my mate "Spence" who manufactures pickups under the company name of shed pickups and mentioned about measuring pickups like you asked. I am no electronics expert and asked him if it was possible to do it via the jack output rather than dismantling the guitar.

He asked why I wanted to do this and although he says that he shows such readings on his web site it is not a sure fire way of knowing how hot/dark etc, etc a pickup is.

He went into all kinds of technical explanations about pole piece size, the thickness of winding cable blah blah blah blah. He lost me after about 3 seconds ha!

If you want to discuss this with him give him an e mail (mention my name to him)

Yep, measuring DC resistance is just not a useful way to describe a pickup. There's a lot more to how they react. Not to mention that measuring DC resistance itself is a subjective measurement. (How hard do you hit the pickup? What frequency is the note you're playing? Etc.)

I should be getting to try out an AL with the three single coils on the 20th so I will try to get something up that night. I will do the side by side test using my AL and Keith's AL
