SKB case more protective than LE guitars?

Hey, y'all. Just wondering what's the consensus.

Is our standard EBMM SKB case more or less protective than the cases that come with the LE guitars or the 20th, etc.?

All I know is the case for my 20th is heavy as a MFer.

It probably depends on the nature of the punishment that the case must endure in a given situation.

I think the SKB cases are great.. lightweight and durable.

The other cases that I've seen in pics look very nice, too.

The vintage case for my 20th Silo ain't lightweight, that's for sure. For some reason, it's way heavier than my 2005 LE Silo Special vintage case....although they look like almost the same case.

You guys should try hefting the bass LE cases....gives you a good workout.

However, I gig with my LE and my Stealth. I use the case each one came with. So, the LE case with the LE and the SKB with the Stealth.

I think they are both durable, but I would put my money on the SKB as "better" for travel as the LE cases look like it could get a rip or tear in it. Either way, if it keeps my babies from getting hurt on the way to the show...I could care less.

Can anyone post photos of the LE cases - I'm getting a JP62006 LE soon and didn't realise you got a different case with the LEs.

I don't know where a pic of that case is, but the 2006LE guitars have a green velvety lining. The outside is black tolex with gold piping, I believe.

My opinion will be that the LE cases are better.

My JP7 case has 3 broken hinges that I had to duct tape over to still functionally use the case. It also got the headstock bashed once in shipping, but that was just an accident. The guitar was shipped upside-down some how and I guess UPS just dropped on the ground pointing up and it smacked the headstock.

EB of course immediately took care of it, no problems at all.

Really the only problem I have with my SKB cases is that once they break, you cannot repair them since they are plastic. If I could some how fix these hinges that ripped out I would. If it were a wooden case I could.

All in all, although it may not sound like it, it's really minor. The SKB case is lighter but not as strong IMO. The LE case is stronger but a lot heavier, it's a Catch-22 like everything.

I just hope my duct-tape holds out.

I think the SKB keeps the guitar cooler, similar to an esky (cooler) but I prefer the G&G case

I saw a promo for SKB in the early 90's where the took a shotgun and blew a hole in the side of a rack case - wasn't unscffed but pretty well protected.

Just felt the need to share.... need more java, I'm even boring myself

All of my original G&G cases fell to bits. I replaced them with Hiscox cases and have not looked back.
