    Hi guys, new here!

    Hello,

I'm Benny. I live in Israel and I'm 25 years old.

I've been visiting these forums for a while and I was impressed with the way this forum helps people and how there's so much information going on here.

I'm happy to join this forum and I hope to learn here as much as I can,
and I also joined today to the Musicman family.

I picked up a musicman Sub1 in a beautiful blue color with the vintage trem and two humbuckers. I'm so happy. I fell in love with this guitar by the first few minutes I played it and I realized I must buy this.

I love the neck! so smooth and quite fast playing, and now I know I prefer 22 fret guitars over 24... and I'm so happy to let go those Floyd Rose guitars... I owned a RG550 till now.

Anything special I need to know about setting up this guitar?
I like it as it is, the frets are simply perfect! I can't believe it... so smooth and flawless!
The neck pickup is sitting much lower than the bridge pickup, I guess that adjusting here is personal preference but any recommendations?

Also, how many conductors does the pickups have? in other words, would it be possible to do splits with a proper switch?

    Thank you!

    Benny K.

Nice SUB. Welcome to the forum!!

I don't know what kind of pickups they used on the SUB, wether they're 2 conductor or 4 conductor wires. I would think that you could replace the volume and tone pots with push-pull pots and wire a coil tap with that.

If you're adventurous, next time you take off the strings, unscrew the pickguard and take a look at the pickup wires. If there's 4, you're in good shape. If not, you might have to invest in 4-conductor humbuckers.

    Hi,

    Thanks for the kind words!
I've searched here for a while for a post regarding the pickups, so far didn't find exactly what I wanted. I did find a cool mod suggestion someone posted here, but it's too experimental for me

Anyway, I'll post now some pics of my guitar.

Welcome to the forums, Betatron! Yeah EVH is right, next time you take off strings, check to see if the pickups are 2 or 4 wire. I've recently learned some about wiring (thanks to help from people on this forum!) and really enjoy tampering with my guitars.

What was the mod you are going to try?

I picked up a SUB 1 this week as well. When I get home, I've got to restring it. I'll take off the pickguard and take a closer look at the wiring.

The mod I referred to was discussed earlier in another thread.
this is a straight link to the mod:

    http://www.guitarelectronics.com/product/WDUHH3T1103

I don't really think I need more than a simple switch to split both humbuckers simultaneously.

I had a 5 way 4 pole switch on my previous Ibanez, I still have the switch, it gave all those coil splits in parallel, which canceled hum but didn't sound quite great. I prefer the simple split humbucker sound, it sounds more natrual to me, with the hum...

I'll probably get a simple Pot with a DPDT on it.

Maybe it's just the factor of the 24 frets and the closer distance between the pickups. I did consider ordering a 3 way 4 pole switch from Dimarzio which they have a diagram for it on their web site, but that would make me install an extra push pull in order to have both humbuckers in full modes, and yet I won't have the ability to use each humbucker with split on its own.

I suppose sometimes simple is better...

TonyEVH5150, I'll be delighted to hear what's going on inside that pickguard...

the hummers in a Sub 1 are 4 wire custom wound DiMarzios, they can be split.
ask customer service for the wiring diagram and they will provide....

welcome fellow Sub 1 guitarist! :-)

    Hello Benny

Welcome here. Thank you for the pictures of your guitar !
IMHO splitting a humbucker is not very useful. If you need to have a single coil sound, nothing replace a real single coil ... Besides, when you split a humbucker you have always a big difference of volume, and of course you cannot adjust your "single coil" pickup height...
