JP6 Piezo switching - call for help (maybe beej?)

    Hi there
I've just installed a D-Sonic in one of my Pets thats a couple of years old.

The mode selector switch appears not to be selecting the piezo only option when using a stereo cable in the stereo jack socket. I get the same effect when using a mono cable in that jack socket, suggesting that it may be the socket itself that is at fault.

The stereo cable works fine on my new JP6 with piezo so I know it isn't the cable. All the other wiring is intact and I've installed a new mode selector switch (courtesy of stringsandthings - UK distributor).

The trouble is, the jack seems to be entirely enclosed and attached to the piezo pre-amp so I'm not sure if I can remove it to check without causing damage.

Is there an easy way to remedy this or will I need a new pre-amp?

Did the piezo work right before the swap? The install really shouldn't affect it. Could be a few things- maybe the wires to the piezo switch came loose, or the head from soldering in the new pickup affected the preamp. The jack is part of the assembly, so I'm not sure how you can get at it easily.

I'd double check all of the wiring just to make sure there's nothing obvious and then call customer service. They'll be able to help you diagnose the problem.

    Hi Beej/guys & gals
Thanks for the advice. I honestly can't remember whether the problem was there before I replaced the pickup...I sort of think it was. I know it isn't the mode selector switch as it's new and I've confirmed it is on/off/on and is working correctly.

However, on further inspection, it looks like I've got a non-standard DiMarzio PUP selector switch (rather than the usual PCB type that I have in my other Balls), suggesting that the previous owner had perhaps made some changes.

I'm thinking that this might be the cause of the problem. Kevin from EBMM international customer service has emailed me the most recent wiring schematic (thank you!) and the UK distributor is going to send me the correct switch (which will also make the surgery easier - especially making sure that the phase is correct with the new PUP).

So, all being well, I'm going to re-wire the whole thing from scratch using fresh wire, solder etc. and see if that helps.

If anyone wants a copy of the (non-piezo) wiring schematic in jpg format, PM or email me and I'll send it to you. Adding in the mode selector switch is easy.
