Question Ping :Candid x - eminence speakers

I was in Cardiff Guitars and he had a pair of Marshall 1 x 12 cabs, but with eminence speakers in them. When I am able to, I'll take my Marshall Combo (see sig) and try it out. That way I'll be running the amp at 8 ohms instead of 16.
Have you (or anybody else) experience / opinions on the eminence speakers ?

My Mate (OLPlayer) is interested in splitting the pair between us.
Thinks to self ... ... ... Now if I can get to the Marshall factory I understand that they recover amps/cabs. It would be cool if they could match the "Silver Jubilee" tolex!

    Hi Spud,

I have a very high opinion of Eminence speakers in general. But the thing is, they currently have SO many different models out now, and each one has it's own sound and feel. They vary widely!

Were you able to see inside the cabs to tell which model Em. speaker is there? Or did their labels read something like: "Designed for Marshall by Eminence"? Only way to tell is to plug into them using YOUR amp.

I'm currently using their Wizard speakers in two of my cabs, and love them. Odd thing is, running through 2 of them is almost too big sounding. Not kidding, they're like steroids on steroids! So I prefer running through just one, or mixing one with another Em. speaker, though the Wizard also sounds good next to a Celestion V30. Currently I'm matching it with an Em. Legend GB128, which sounds a little more gritty. I'm thinking of trying out their Tone Spotter with the Wizard.

But like I said, they have so many different models out now. Only way to tell is to try the ones in those Marshall cabs for yourself, through your amp. Nothing I know of is more subjective than tone.

Or, just find the Em. model that sounds right to your ears. Some of Em. speakers are modeled after the original Celestion speakers, only with certain audio improvements and often with greater power handling capability.

    Thanks Candid and thanks Tristan.

I'll phone up the shop and get a description from the (blue) label, and like you say, I'll be trying them out with my Marshall and Albert (I may even bust the LP out of retirement )

My guess is that they won't be able to tell you which Em. the cabs are loaded with, other than being labeled as Marshall, designed by Eminence, or some such thing. Line6 and Fender (and many others) use them, but each speaker is voiced for that amp.

Imo, you can always replace speakers. Finding the right cab(s) for your rig is the main thing, for construction, acoustics and looks.

Cheers Candid - I'm hoping that there will be a description because the shop owner says that they are not the original speakers. However with your level of knowledge I'm sure we'll be able to get to the bottom of this.
    Thanks for the link too!

I'm glad that I posted this thread now because a fellow forumite in the UK has indicated that he has some Marshall 1 x 12's up for grabs !!!

I think your VHT cab is loaded with "Eminence made P50E speakers", but I haven't been able to find them anywhere but in VHT cabs. Whether they are one of Em's existing line with different labels or if they were truly made just for VHT, I can't say.

But, let me venture just a guess. Based on listening to VHT clips on their site, and the name (P50E), they sound very similar to the 50 watt Em Legend GB12.

Cool. Check em out. Feel free to IM or email me, or just post here what models speakers are in them. Ya got me curious now. Also, you can go to that Em site I posted for sound clips.
