I got my speech presentation grade today

You know the thread from about 3 weeks ago saying that I needed to pass a career speech in order to graduate...well it went very smoothly, the powerpoint I made and my Silo were a perfect compliment to the speech. Special thanks to PhatDuck for letting me use the factory pictures, I also made a collage of some of my favorite finishes, which pretty much were all fourmite guitars...I am trying to host the powerepoint right now if anybodoy wants to see it, your guitar might be on there.
So the teacher said in all her years she's never seen a guitar luthier and it was a great speech and amazing pictures, but due to the Smartboard not working it took me longer to change slides so she marked me down on transitions and my intro. I recieved an A- which is still a great grade but I was marked down due to mechanical faults, it is all good though.... however I actually put time into this and I would have liked to seen an A, she only handed out 1 A and 3 other A-'s so I geuss I should still be proud.
Thanks for the support early on guys!

    hellz yes to that BP!
anyway photobucket wouldn't take ppt format so I had to go to my evil fileden acount .... here is the presentation...I wasn't able to use too much text as it was meant to be a visual aid but don't worry all I did in the speech was praise EBMM and not exactly praise other guitar companies that felt cheap labor is better than a quality guitar.http://www.fileden.com/files/2007/1/...covered%5D.pptBTW! It will load slowly....but the last 4 slides are worth it! Her favorite guitar was the Dargie....she really seemed to like that it was alchohol inspired more than just the amazingness of the finish..hmmmm.

I recently discovered a cool feature in OpenOffice Impress. For those that don't know OpenOffice is a free alternative to MS Office. Both OpenOffice and Office can export to HTML, but OpenOffice can export to Flash as well. Makes the presentation look a little more like the original. I haven't tested it out a lot but I imagine with the Flash format you can keep your cool transition effects. Definitely makes thing easier too, since you only have to deal with the one Flash file and not all the images files and .html files you get by exporting to HTML

    congratulations

Congratulations on your grade, an A- is a great grade. I liked all the different pictures you included, some of those guitars had some crazy inlays. Is SmartBoard an online classroom system that's maintained by your school district? If so, that's a shame to be dinged for something beyond your control...Too bad you couldn't have uploaded to your own site and ran it from there.

I had a similar experience in college when the workstation I was using messed up my zip disk and I lost an important document with a bunch of changes I had just made; it was due that morning. The instructor basically told me I had to run home to get another copy and be back with my document by 10:00 am and it was 8:30am, plus I still had to recreate the changes I had done. Needless to say I was late and got penalized heavily for being late; I was sooo miffed.

What urked me more was being the only Information Systems major in the class, the professor would bring every student to me with their problems when they couldn't save a file, print, turn on the computer, or, read the online help

Congratulations again on the good job.

SmartBoard is basically an computerized white board, it corresponds with your computer and you can do alot of crazy stuff. When I clicked it to change slides it wouldn't do it and I had to run over to the laptop and do it there. It was her job to check that it was working and she didn't.

Uggh your story sucks too. It is sooo agravating when stuff like that happens, ...the only problem now (at least in HighSchool) is students use technology malfunctioning as an excuse for not doing work and teachers are starting to not take the real problems because they can't tell the true ones apart.
Thats funny about being the "Tech Guy" in your class. Alot of teachers now give hefty extra credit to the "Tech Guy" cause they can't work their own classroom anymore.

BTW thanks everyone for the kind words

I know it sucks getting downgraded due to technical difficulties... but that's life. If you were pitching your product to a customer and had similar problems, they might lose focus or whatever and not buy what you are selling.

Regardles, congratulations on a job well done.
