I never put things in the back of my amp when I transport it, as I keep all my leads in suitcase. When I gig, I use the back of my amp to keep my ipod, keys, wallet etc from going missing. I have done this for some time, and the Ipod appears still to be going strong!

If you get an AER acoustic it comes in a bag that looks like a "fishing tackle box" - loads of pockets to carry just about everything.

My Marshall I put the power cord and have flyers from ols gigs I played.

Monty B makes a good point about mesh on the back.
The Mesa F50 I'm getting has the some mesh but I'm taking it off so I can unplug the footswitch !
