OT: Guitar On Hold Not Held

Hey guys, I'm not one to come on here and bash GC, because I've had great service for the past 6 years when I've bought stuff from them, but I just wanted to tell you guys about the situation and see if anyone has had this happen to them. So here's the thing: I put a fully loaded JP6 in mystic dream (minus the inlays) on hold at a GC in another state. When I talked to the sales guy, he got all my info, and proceeded to tell me that he put the guitar in the back for me on layaway. Well, I call today to see if I can have the guitar shipped to the GC closest to me so that I can pick it up. Both of the sales guys that I talked to the first time weren't there today, so they put me through to someone else in guitars. Low and behold, it turns out that the guy that told me he put the guitar in layaway for me sold the guitar to another customer, so I pretty much got the short end of the stick. Either way I talked to the AM, because the store manager wasn't there and he was very helpful and apologetic to the situation. Has this ever happened with any of you guys? By the way, this is the only bad experience I've had at GC, and it still remains the only place I'll buy my gear. Thanks for taking the time to read this.

    -Phil

No, but if it is not in the store then I dont buy from GC, and not bashing them because GC is a great place and my earlier guitars came from there as well as other items like my amp but maybe time to try an alternative for buying guitars i.e. DuBaldo Music

ive never had this happen either. but frankly with the volume of business that goes thru a GC id find it very hard for them to keep stuff like that organzied especially when there's multiple stores involved

I see where you're coming from, but either way, it was such a crappy move that the guy pulled. You don't just tell someone you'll put it on hold then 2 days later sell it, thats just messed up. Hopefully another one will pop up, but I doubt at that price.

I have never had it happen to me, but I can well understand exactly how this happened.

The basic problem is that there is no such thing as putting something on hold at GC, or for that matter, many big stores. He may well have put it out the back but it will still show up on inventory unsold and, faced with a interested customer in the store, any salesperson will easily find it. If you had put it on layaway by paying an upfront deposit then it would be marked as sold in inventory and would not be sold to someone else.

Of course none of this is your fault. It's the fault of the salesguy for not telling you the reality of the situation.

I have had GC get me things from another store but, in my exerience, they only do this if you pay in full first and in person. With their return policy, this is a no risk proposition.

Let me get this straight.....you put a guitar on hold in another state with a sales guy who is off today.....you call today and nobody knows about it and it is shown as sold...........I think before I posted on an international forum I would give the guy who had the day off a chance to explain himself. Maybe he has it stashed for you????/ I would hate to get bashed on my day off. It is like the impatient guys who bump customer service threads at 4 am california time

I know that they cannot hold anything without a hard deposit..........
    Two requests, please

    Please don't PM me
    Thanks

BP, its not like that at all. I know that at my local GC that there is a specific area for gear on layaway. Now if an associate walks back there to the layaway room, obviously thats gear thats on hold for people. There have been guys at my local GC that have sold guitars out from people before too. I think that its just some associates don't give a damn and just wanna make a sale, even if it is screwing a customer that already had the guitar on hold. I talked to an assistant mananger who went into the back and the Petrucci was there, but with someone else's name on it and it is being shipped to a store in Illinois. The other guy has already paid for it in full so there's nothing they can do I guess. I would never accuse the guy of doing something wrong if I wasn't positive of his actions. The assistant manager told me on the phone that this particular sales guy has been written up before and apologized to me. I guess thats just the way the cookie crumbles. Anyway it still sucks. I didn't post it to bash GC, and I clearly stated that when I started the thread, I just wanted to see if anyone has had this happen before. I just think what happened is very crappy. I see where you're coming from though BP, but I'm def. not falsely accusing the guy.

i really dont want to be rude but posting negative stuff comes of as bashing, whether you intend it that way or not... even w/ a disclaimer.

it totally sucks that you were under the impression that a guitar was held for you and it was sold to someone else. ya, that sucks for sure but, my question is: what does posting about it on this forum accomplish?

the guitar's was sold and a bunch of people read something bad about GC

Phatty, I really don't agree with that. I honestly don't think its bashing. I love GC and I've gotten great service its just this once that I got kinda screwed. For example, I met Mike Portnoy today. Now if I said his blue goatee is stupid, thats bashing. Actually his blue goat is awesome. See what I'm saying? I don't necessarily think that saying something negative about something is bashing it, but different strokes for different folks I guess. And to answer your second thing: posting about it gave me some stress relief, which is why I come to this forum, but also let me know that some people at least agree with me, which is nice to know. And I really don't think that GC's business is going to suffer from a post thats not in the slightest bit bashing, being that they do a ton of business every day. At least now people know that if they put something on hold, and are told that its on hold that it might necessarily not be, so lesson of the day is always double check like I did. Thanks.

yep, its bashing plain and simple, even with a disclaimer. Saying its not doesn't make it so.

There was no reason for this posting other then to vent against GC by posting this negative report on your experience with them.

    Thats it, end of story.

THIS IS A NO-BASH ZONE FORUM. Its something I had to learn, and I did, so you can too.

i get the venting and other people will learn stuff etc - so im 1/2 way there with ya. but i still maintain it comes off as bashing no matter what your intent was. as an outsider reading it thats the impression i got.

see, the thing is that we (especially BP) have tried really hard to minimize/eliminate bashing here (especially GC). a LOT of us know this and many, many people have stopped. This is a touchy thing and i hope/wish regulars would know better than to toss something out that that could even remotely possibly be considered bashing.
