You are now ready for "Systematic Chaos."I ended up dowloading Train of Thought off iTunes & I'm really enjoying it. The arrangements are tremendous & the playing is f***ing unbelievable. For me, the 10+ minute songs don't seem nearly that long, they really stay interesting throughout & are not overly repetitive.
My only criticism is the singer's voice, which sounds like a very generic 80's metal singer to me. He has great range & sings well, but the sound of his voice just takes a little away from the music for me. Bottom line, I'm glad I downloaded this album & will be picking up more DT stuff once I give Train of Though some more time to sink in.
It's no secret to anyone on here (except maybe me), but Petrucci is such an incredible player. I was imagining him as just a pure shredder, but he's much more than that. His phrasing is perfect & when he does let it rip...!!! Also, his tone is great as well (I was less surprised by this).
Does anyone know if any of the acoustic parts on Train of Thought were recorded w/ the JP peizo? Also, I know he's a Mesa guy. Anyone know what amps he used on this album? Heavy stuff.
Anyway, thanks very much for all the suggestions.
