Axis SS Pot + Coil Tap

    Hi folks

I intend to change the Volume pot on my Axis Super Sport and possibly disable the tone pot as well although not exactly made my mind up about that.
The volume pot simply isn't fast enough for me so i'm gonna have it replaced. I had my Axis pot swapped when i got it coil tapped and its very fast and I love it.

I was wondering if I got the Super Sport coil tapped as well. What other sounds would it give me? Will the positions 2 and 4 sound the same? or will they me even more stratty?

Positions 2 & 4 already use a single coil from each humbucker, so there won't be a change. (Actually, what happens is if you force a coil split and cancel the other coil, 1 of those 2 positions won't work at all when the pickup is split unless you do some funky wiring).

The 'buckers sound okay when split, so it's not a bad idea for fun. It's just that to be usable you'll have to turn off the split before selecting the in-between positions. And, of course, the split coils on their own will hum.

Here's an idea: if you don't want the tone pot, wire it up as a variable coil split. At a recommendation I did this on my Morse & Y2D and it sounds great. There's a schematic here on the Seymour Duncan site.

In my experience, the ASS sounds much better with the tone pot taken off..

You can use a no-load-pot for the tone control. These totally disable the tone control set at 10 and work as usual at positions 0 - 9.
