Gassing for an AL but want to hear some samples

I have owned 2 Lukes over the last 10 years. Great guitars and Luke is one of my idols. But, as a guitar player and trying to sample other makes and models of guitars they were sold to finance others. I have sold off everything this last summer thinking I was done. Yea right. Now that winter has hit and cabin fever is starting to kick in, I want to start playing again.

I have always been interested in the AL and being a strat fan and super strat fan, the AL and Silo Spec. are at the top of my list. I am leaning more towards the AL though. I would like to hear what is can do though. MusicMan guitars are pretty hard to find here in Wisconsin. The shop I usually go to is a dealer but they don't stock much. They will order me anything I want though and their prices are great but I want to try some of the models out first.

the style I pursue the most is fusion type stuff, jazz, rock, blues, country all mixed together. My idols are Mike Landau, Scott Henderson, Luke, Dan Huff.

I have tried searching for some stuff on YouTube and there is a guy using a AL in a fusion type setting but I was wondering if anyone had other stuff to check out.

Maybe a Silo Special with HSS will suit you fine, but obviously the AL is a KILLER guitar, but you may benefit from a humbucker in there on the Silo for the more rockier stuff. The vids you checked out on youtube are of that guy using a white AL playing fusiony stuff? Great player!

I also would like to hear some different styles played with an AL. I have no doubt that it kills doing country pickin', and most any guitar can sustain if run through pedals, compressor and such, but I'd like to know how it does by itself just through a little tube amp overdrive.

I have both, and I think of the AL as the Tele-killer, and the Silo as the Strat-killer. Throw in the humbucker in the Silo bridge, and it's can do anything.

The AL is a strat/tele monster. Page used a lot of tele in Zep's heyday as well as many other rockers so the bridge pu will get you a tele rock as well as country sound. The other two pu's will do fusion, blues, and rock as well.

I think that you should get both.
Then once you've decided, you can give the other one to me.

Rob, couldn't he just put a single coil sized humbucker in the bridge to get rock tones? Just a thought.

    Hey Toto Head -

Where in Wisconsin are you? I live in St. Paul - I've got an Al. if you're in western Sconny - you could come by, or meet me at one of the local stores, and check out my AL to see what it can do.

I live 30 miles south of Milwaukee.

I know what the Silo. Spec. is capable of because most of the guitars I have owned have been similar in spec.

But, the AL is a very intriguing instrument. I know who is was made for and what that artist sounds like using it. I was just curious to find out what is sounds like for other genres of music.

that's very kind of you bro Norrin

yeah..that's the best way to know how it works for you or not. by playing it yourself instead looking for samples.. and i bet AL will works for fusion style too..but it depends on Toto Head's preference though.

Mmm, I've also owned similarly spec-ed guitars (Fender, Warmoth, G&L, Charvel, etc), but I'd say the Silo Special is capable of smokin' 'em, or at least delivering something unique from them.
