I choose not to play that game because of how addictive it is.

It is one of the main reasons I do NOT own an X-Box 360. I would seriously drop out of college and quit guitar and live in my mother's garage for the rest of my life and be sucked into a world of games.. sort of like those World of Warcraft people.

Quite a strong season on Rockband. Someone once told me that this game will take it to a whole new level.

I expect a whole new herd of bassists and drummers appearing soon.

Well I'm a convert....I used to be one of the purists that BP loves. I have since changed my tune because of conversations here and now a few relatives who are suddenly interested in my real guitars. My brother is a bassist and key player, and he bought both Rock Band and GH3 for hsi family, and they love it. Me? I already embarrass myself with real guitars, I'm not about to pick up GH3 and end up looking even more foolish because I can't play it...(visions of Randy on the South Park 'Guitar Queer-O episode)

I have to say I prefer using games to do things I can't do in real life...killing monsters, driving racecars, that sort of thing. But if it makes people want to pick up a real instrument it's a good thing and I can certainly see the fun in it.

    Can we say "saturation"?

Gone are the days when playing guitar gets more than an apathetic nod from the chicks. It's more like "oh, you play guitar too"? Now I ask, what good is playing guitar in the first place if you can't get chicks by playing? Now it's been reduced to "Hey baby, wanna see me kick ass on this new geek version of Guitar Hero?"

Chit, it's no wonder more women have taken up following pro sports, where at least real men ain't just diddlin' their joy stick.

Furthering that line of thinking... GH is very much like reading music. When I first played the game, I felt that anyone who does really well at it, should have no problems learning to play an instrument well.

Of course, I'd hope that the instant gratification factor of the game leads people to play guitar as you're pointing out, and the one drawback to the game is that so many people just play it and never transfer into something more meaningful, but really, that's all in the sort of argument that any leisurely activity can fall into if people do it too much.

I don't see where GH is any worse than any other game that a lot of guitar players play while they vehemently bash GH.
