stereo cables and the EB splitter box

Now that I'm finally sending the rest of the money to replace the 7 string, I'm thinking about the best way to get the piezo incorporated into my rig.

I'll be switching to my Ibanez JP without piezo for quite a few songs, and I don't really know how this stereo plug/box stuff will work.

Can I use a stereo cable with a mono jack and it just go to the amp? Do I need to change cables when I change guitars?

If I understand this right, this is why I need the splitter box? So that the stereo cable will know where to send the signal when it's not from the MM?

I really don't want to have to use two cables with the EB, or change cables to go to an all magnetic guitar. I just don't know what to make of all this stuff. LOL

Any ideas for technology term challenged individual?

If you plug the stereo cable into a mono jack, it will operate just like a regular guitar cable. I don't bother undoing my splitter box set-up, etc. I don't change cords. It works fine.

Will it try to send magnetic signal through to the piezo side of the cable?

And also... what cable should I buy? Mogami doesn't make a dual cable.

No. When they say "stereo" cable, it doesn't really mean stereo. The magnetic pickups go through one part of the cable, and the piezo signal goes through the other part. The splitter box makes the signals go their separate ways. One output from the splitter will go to the amp where you want the magnetic signal to go. The piezo signal comes out the other output.

Ernie Ball has one. That's what I got from Pete D.

I use a Mogami TRS cable with my JP. It goes to an EBMM splitter that I bought from Pete. The magnetic signal goes to my Rocktron Prophesy and the piezo goes to my acoustic amp. The setup really works great and allows me to get the best clean tones that I've ever heard.

Sorry for the dumb question but is it necessary to run the piezo to a different amp or can you use a different channel on the same amp? I'll be getting my first one when it rolls of the assembly line snf I guess I should get prepared.

    Thanks

To run it to a separate channel on the amp you need the stereo cable out of the guitar into the splitter then the two monos from the spliiter out to channel 1 and channel 2 of your amp.

You could also use two mono leads coming out of the guitar - but I don't like the look of it.

Thanks for the information and your opinion. I guess I will look for a reasonably priced acoustic amp for the piezo. After spending this much money I would rather do it right.

That's the way I do it.
Some guys here run it through the PA.

There seems to be a few different types of acoustic Amps out on the market.

I saw a few when I was working in Liverpool last week. Go try some out and see what you like. - then get savin'
