It's a rather small town. If you are there for more than one day, I can't imagine that you won't see everything worth seeing.

There is a little town called Cyucos (sp?) about 15 minutes north of there. If you like shopping for antiques there is ALOT of stuff like that there.

First off, They closed part of hwy 1 north of morro bay in big sur due to the fires ravaging the area yesterday or the day before. May be open again already but I'd check with the california hwy patrol for updates.

There were some 800+ fires burning all over northern california. Morro bay is probably far enough south not to be affected, though air quality might be poorer.
But if you were planning on flying into SF and driving south down the coast, make sure.

I'd also check out Cambria about 20 miles north of morro bay. Especially the moonstone beach area and san simeon state park. Moonstone grille is pretty good with outdoor dining and a nice view.

In MB, otter rock (restaurant/bar) used to have an open mike on thursday.

Come into slo tonight and go to the Mission. They have "Concert in the Plaza" tonight. Usually about 1k show up and it's 80 degrees with beer and wine.

Sylvester's is really good -- as is Carlock's Bakery in Los Osos too. If Noi's Thai Takeout in Baywood Park hasn't run out of food by 6pm (trust me, it has happened), they've got some awesome takeout!

GAFCO (Great American Fish Company) in Morro Bay is good for fish n chips, but I've had great fish at the Outrigger too, for a quieter atmosphere (and I think its owned by the same people). Hofbrau in Morro Bay has great views and fantastic, no-frills food.

If you make it to SLO, you must go eat a tri-tip sandwich from Firestone. Legendary!

If you've got time, definitely drive north on the 1 to see the elephant seals. They're so adorable!

I still dream about those tri-tips... And Keith doesn't help matters by sending me IM pics of them everytime he has one. Beautiful country out there for sure.
