Seems this guy had it for sale originally for $78,000 at first and warned people that if it didn't sell, he would raise the price by ten grand and re-list it. This must be the third go round.

So I suggest you guys buy it now - It's just going to keep getting more expensive.

Think of all the mojo hidden in that guitar... 98,000 is a bargain, actually.

It must be the worlds first electric guitar.... or so one would think with the ridiculous price.

could it be an exercise in creative marketing..?

the shipping price is "out there" too...

Mr. Gates, need a mantle piece?

But guys ... just try finding another one like it somewhere else.

I've got a couple of beat to hell antique guitars laying around here, and I'd be more than willing to beat his price by 50 percent if anyone's interested.

Of course, he's also got a Daiwa fishing reel that sells for about $60 new listed as "the Rolex of fishing reels."

Hehe. Not my $98k. Were I lucky enough to have $98k, I think I could find better ways to spend it -- like a house that's actually big enough for my family.

Wonder if he'll up it to $108k next time just to punish us for not buying it at 98?

    Guitar, W. Starrett Vintage--Rare--Rare--Only 1 Known ? - eBay (item 120289754284 end time Aug-10-08 19:58:52 PDT)

True to his word, he's upped the price another $10k. I'm curious to see how high he'll go with it. At the very least it's provided me a moderate bit of entertainment.

I'm wondering how far he'll go before he gives in. Looks to me like a homemade job. Starrett apparently makes gauges and industrial type stuff. I used to know a guy that worked in a machine shop that was allowed to use the equipment on his own time to build crappy guitars. I'm guessing this is a similar situation, and the guy who built it either used a piece of wood that had the stamp on it or stamped it himself. I'm pretty sure the seller's at least right in saying it's a one of a kind.
