First Impressions of the new Ernie ball wah…

    Start Player

This wah is definitely staying on my pedal board. You can hear it in this clip where it’s a secondary rhythm guitar. The Wah is sometimes hitting a Fulltone ’69 fuzz on its way to an Egnater SL B channel which enters soon. All the levels are automated for the vocal, so you can hear the wah as mostly an underlying part, but I really like how it talks in the final bridge section with the neck single coil when it is mixed a hotter. I think good gear works in varying dosages, and this wah blends and cuts through nicely at various mix levels and wah amounts. The main rhythm guitars are EG5 A channel doubled. All guitars are EB Morse. The bass is Ernie Ball Bongo going into the Ampeg SVX - which I also really like. This clip is from the tune, “Snuff Flick” prior to getting real drums.

    Thanks guys!

Yeah BP, I know this isn't an extroverted wah-fest, but what I really like about it is how it sits in the whole mix with vocals. When I get the drums, then it's time for some icing!

Also, BP, I have a track on the new CD dedicated to your Poppa - using an OLD EB pedal steel I scored on the bay. Please let me know if you'd like an advance copy.

John, how it sits in the mix is the first thing I noticed. The subtlety of the wha has made me question whether I'd enjoy it, but in this context it is perfect. Almost like an expression pedal?

No problemo señor, please just let me know where to send it.

Candid X, yeah I have it mixed low and panned appart from the other rhythm guitar. Whn I want it to be more prominent, it comes up and to the center more. But it cuts through just enough for the effect I need with the vocal track over the top. It will be even more subtle with the drums.

Thanks folks. Just got back from a a few days or rack work at LA Sound Designs, and the EB wah is the one I'm keeping on the pedal board.

    Which Egnater amp is this?

I just got myself the EB wah as well. Kicked the JD Hendrix wah right off my board! It's smoother, and it's got a really nice sweep to it. Pretty much what I've been looking for in a wah! And the ease of access to the battery is a godsend.

But I've heard that EB pedals use strings to turn the potentiometer rather than a chain. Is this true? What happens if it snaps? Can it be fixed?
