well, it's possible that with the chunk that is now missing, air can get to the surrounding layers and possibly make the blemish worse... personally I'd get the area filled in/repaired. it could be taken to a luthier and evaluated without cost, most likely.

    +1 what J-Jim said.

Plus, you might fall into the hole, or gash yourself and rip a leg off.

Well i'm not taking it anywhere yet, there is a lack of great luthiers around here, I wouldnt trust many of them to restring a guitar......I'll have to do some homework. Not worried yet though.

My mate had some superb repair work done on an old (really) beat-up EVH here in Perth.

Restored it to nearly new condition.

If you ever get REALLY desperate, you can send it over here and I'll sort it out for you ?

Seriously mate, I can send the guy pics etc and see what charges / time / success he thinks he will have ?

    Absolutely.

My old Roadstar II has *plenty* of dings (though none as bad as your BFR)...and I reckon the Roadstar has more character because it has those battle scars.

my loaded JP6 wasnt seated on its stand properly and fell off when setting up a DI box.... this was when it was less than a week old!! and when it happened everyone around me just stopped what they were doing and looked at me in horror as they knew how much it meant to me... haha.. was a bad feeling at the time, but it did nothing to the guitar itself so i can laugh it off now i think the trem arm took up most of the impact..

Back when I played another brand of guitars. I set the guitar on the stand and it did a headstock dive. Broken headstock. Sold it shortly after, it never felt right after the repair.
